Default Big cam vs. small cam 1/4 times?

I was just thinking about how big the difference is in the guys that are running the bigger cams (trex,MS4,G5X3, etc) vs. smaller cams (228,F13,224,etc). I know there are many factors that come into play such as weight, supporting mods, etc. but i would like to know on AVERAGE (not the gutted fastest cam only cars) what 1/4 times do the bigger cammed cars run vs. the smaller cammed cars? For example i think its awesome that one of the fastest cam only cars is Mike's with is little old F4 cam.

I was wondering why there are cars out there with 420+ cube motors only making 550hp and running 11's,
and there are cars out there with stock bottom ends, with heads, cam and bolt ons making 490-500hp and running mid and low 10's.

I guess its just a drivability issue,
but I would hate to spend $15K on a motor from a high dollar shop and get beat by someone with a $3500 heads/cam package.

Amen to that!! Kinda like I run the same numbers as someone I know with a 408 motor with a large cam and all-out heads, all around suspension, etc. and I have a stock bottom end 346 with heads and cam-only. Crazy.

I have a Crane Cams .550 cam with 1.8 rockers (yes, I like the set-up) and AFR Heads with a high compression and I run high 10's. (Soon as my tranny and new TC are done I hope to hit lower numbers.) Run 6.90s in the 1/8. 1.47 60 foot.

It's all about how you have to car setup. You have to match components to each other to get the most out of it. There is a lot of trial and error to get it right if you don't just copy someone elses tried and true setup. My car runs just as fast or faster than H&C setups and bigger motors cam-only, but I still have more things to try/work out.

Would yall agree that the majority of cam-only f-bodys run anywhere from 11.50s-12.50s? I know there is the exceptions that are in the 10s but i think most of those cars are not normal raceweight, running skinnies, and are big geared cars, would yall agree?

Yea I would agree most are not setup to run at the track
Like I said before you cannot expect to run good times unless you have everything properly matched up.

Guy who owner the car before me said he ran 12.2 on 17" drag radials. This is an auto, through a (at the time) 2800 stall. This is with its current hotcam. When I get my new cam installed and run it i'll post up my times. New cam will likely be 236/242 .624/.576 110+4.
