Talking Getting the '69 track ready (pics)

Sure, its a "Pro-Touring" car, but with a simple wheel and tire swap, and the addition of a new 6-point rollbar, it sure does look different. I had to reposition the rear shocks upwards a bit, and slightly grind some casting corners off of my fancy front brake calipers, but everything fits now.

These are definitely the biggest tires you can fit under those stock quarters. I even had to roll the fender lips to make them fit!

If the weather clears, and I get some time, I might hit the track tomorrow :3gears:

That car is just to "F"ing sweet! Looks so much more "appropriate" with slicks and skinnies on!

Very nice. Loved the car at Thunder Shoot Out. It was really nice meeting you.

I know what you mean Mike, I've always loved big-n-littles on a 1st gen. Of course, it stands out much better on the 17s though, as there are a ton of 69s on Pro-Stars.

David, these are the wheels/tires I was planning on running at Thunder, until I realized the rear wheels I had were the wrong offset (6.5 bs). So, I had to order new ones, which finally showed up this past week.

It will be fun to race with traction again!

ET Streets aren't as wide as real slicks. On my previous car, 26x11.5 ET Streets weren't as wide as my 26x10.0 slicks. My car is also lowered, I'm sure a wider tire could fit if the car was at stock height.

Sean, tranny still acting up, but it typically goes into gear okay. Getting it out of gear can be a problem sometimes. I need to rebuild my other one and pull this one back out to look at it also

A 28 x 12.5 x 15 et street has almost the same dimensions as a 28 x 10.5 x 15 slick. I've seen numerous 28 x 10.5 slicks on early Camaros and that's pretty much all that will fit without going outside the body lines unless it's mini-tubbed.

Tony, car looks sweet in race trim! I'm sure you musta cringed a little to put a 6-point in a show car Something I noticed though, not that I'm doubting madman's work. The door bars look a little low to pass tech. Great if they do though, all the easier to get in/out of the car. Did you consider a swing out?

I can move the seat back and the bar passes between my shoulder and elbow, so it is legal.

I didn't cringe at all getting the rollbar installed, I had it planned all along. I didn't go with swing outs because I wanted to stiffen up this loose chassis. 1st gens are very loose compared to 4th gens, it needed all the help it could get. I also have welded in subframes now as well. Of course, some of the other staff members here thought I was a nut to put a cage in a "showcar". But, I hope to run 9s in this showcar (on nitrous), to show other showcar builders how to do it

Cool, I understand the roll bar philosophy on stiffness. I went swing-out b/c already had the sfc installed and still drive mine plenty and hate climbing over a bar. yours looks clean though. Good luck with getting it hooked up and some quick times.

A little but when is your car going to be in Popular Hot Rodding?

It should appear in PHR in 2-3 months typically. They already submitted the write-up to the publisher a couple weeks ago.

Tony,

The pro touring look is cool, but the new look is bad ***! With those tires and the Caltracs you'll get that thing to hook in a car wash.
