At what point is a Glide faster than a 350/400?

I'm considering going from the 2 spd glide in the car now to a 3 spd trans because I think the car will gain some ET thinking it will keep the motor in the power band better. The car was previously used as a 1/8th mile bracket car so the glide made sense. But now I'll be running full 1/4 mile and only bracket racing occasionally and am more concerned with improving ET than consistancy. This is on a 3000# car with a 496 BBC N/A motor that currently ET's in the mid-low 9's at mid-140's.
Thanks.
Thanks.

I would guess they are pretty close. The glide will only take (According to TCI) about 7-10 hp away from the motor.
400's and 350's are much less efficient so I am of the mind set that the amount of hp you lose partially offsets the gearing changes. Really your powerband is REAL tight and you arent running Pro Stock where it is important to stay in a 3-400 rpm powerband.

Stick with the glide. I'm not sure I agree that someone had it in the car because of the 1/8 bracket racing. Glides are light, very efficient and a popular choice of drag racers. I love my glide, so I'm a bit partial

It also depends on if you need the extra torque multiplication or not off the line with the steeper T350 or T400's 1st gear. I went that route...if I was solely or mostly bracket racing, I'd gone a Powerglide just due to one less gear to shift or have shifted for you. Take care.
PS: You can get a T400 VERY light and also quite efficient, much beyond just an aluminum drum! Talk to Carl Rossler. Plus, my new little ATI 8" converter weighs less than 18#'s dry vs. 31#'s dry for my Yank TP4400 vs. 52#'s dry for my stock conveter.

A glide will probably have a 1.76 low gear, which is not enough to get a 3000 car moving. Stay with the 3 spd, which is what we run in our Firebird.

My car went high 1.3s with ONLY 508rwhp and a car weight of 3030 (3220 raceweight) and a 1.76 first gear. Your setup obviously works, but I still think there's too much rumor regarding glides only working in super light cars. I used to think the same thing until my tranny builder convinced me other wise. He had a 3400 lbs car with a glide that put my short time to shame. Just my .02

My raceweight is around 3,300 lbs. My car weighs about 3,050 and I go 250.
I have a Rossler glide with a 1.96 1st gear, 4:56 gears out back with 30" tires. My wheels are still up at the 60'. I only have 540 SAE corrected HP at the wheels. My car gets going 1.30 60's at marginal tracks.
I love my glide

TCI talked me out of their best TH350, in favor of their best 'glide. This is for a 9-second NA setup, at around 3100 lbs estimated raceweight. It will also have the 1.96 1st gear ratio. Looking at Tom's and NEXT's short times, hard to argue with any of those results.

We'll, i'll toss my .02 in
3350 raceweight, 1.80 1st gear, 3.60 rear gear, 28x10.5W tire. Stall off boost is 3200 ish on the brake, 5200 at 13psi boost on the brake, 7000+ flash when the brake lets go.
consistant low 1.3x, best of 1.26 spinning
It seems to move my pig, but i'm pushing alot mor grunt than most.
Not to mention it only weighs 95lbs dry.

Thanks for the interesting discussion guys. My cars not all that heavy (3160# w/ me in it). The car goes 1.30 60' times with a 1.76 1st gear, 6000 converter, 4.56 rear and 32" tall tires. That seems a little 'lazy' to me for a car that runs 9.4x @ 144. But I can tell it does need some serious suspension tuning by the way he had the car setup with the shocks and ladder bar settings.
I'd rather keep this tranny because it's already loaded with good parts (1.76 TCI superset, 350 turbo input shaft, t-brake, electric shift, CSI shield), and I don't want to spend $2-3k just to have the car slow down.
