Well the car is back in the shop for a long upgrade process over the winter. Game plan is to take a ton of weight out and convert the chassis over to a 25.2 or 25.3. Right now I'm leaning towards a 25.2 since we'll be under 3200 everywhere. I'll need to add the floor bars, gussets and X ontop of the cage. Right now it sits 3290 with 50-75# of ballast in the car.

I went ahead and ordered some new doors today, that should be good for 50-75# at a mininum. Going to go lexan on all corners.

Doors and lexan are going to be enough to get you there almost already I bet.

Keep the pic's coming, always nice to see the progress!

Got the car back in the shop to pull the motor, pulled the doors and since we're going to replace them I decided to weigh them.....92# for EACH door.
Old doors <184>
new doors + 14(pair)
Glass and hardware + 8
Total savings: 162

3275
<162>
<20> lexan
<10> extra water pump + lines
<40> ballast
3043 before any chassis weight reduction.

DAMN, 92 lb's for EACH door is nuts...had no clue they were that heavy.

3050 before any real work....thing is going to be even more of a rocket

With a full power third gen a buddy and I were able to carry the door's with ease... did not seem all that heavy..... I had heard that the light doors with lexan pulls like 45 pounds or something like that.

I know the hatch felt a lot heavier then just one door.

I could be wrong on the doors........... maybe they are heavy and just don't feel that heavy. or maybe the 4th gen stuff is a lot heavier....

Aren't the F-body doors plastic or fiberglass?

They're fiberglass... but still you know how it is with all the crap inside them.

I know the VFN doors have a frame around the window... so you can put lexan in the side doors too.

not sure how they look on a car though.

The hatch is heavy, formula hatch is 15 lbs lighter then a transam (confirmed with my own scale, as I already switched to a formula hatch)

Speedglass does pull 25 lbs off the hatch, which is decent.

4th gen doors are extremely heavy. They may not look like it but try taking one off.

no sh%t...I yanked my doors yesterday...and couldn't believe how freaking heavy they were...I'll be tearing them apart to find some of that weight to cut out (and that was with the door bars already removed )

since you are already 25.5...if you go 25.2, you'll probably be 25.3 by default based on what I've seen...

I was wondering on the 4th gen doors.. they just feel heavy when closing them.

I still have all my door bars and chit in the doors... once the wolfe door skins are here I'll be removing/cutting all the uneeded stuff out in an attempt to get them lightened up.

Cutoff wheel here we come

That thing should be wicked next year. I was hoping for a LS car at the shakedown this year, but no such luck. Hopefully you'll be able to put the LS in the 6's and set the LS radial record but maybe you'll have competition form the Ohio Boys.
