Not to go too off topic in Phil's thread but it seems like here are the options of aftermarket EMS:
BS3
Motec
FAST XFI
Holley
Accel DFI
Others?
What's the cost of each? How would they rank 1-5 with 1 being the 'best' in terms of overall package (product, customer service, flexibility). I also assume all can do the same features from fuel control, trans control, etc.

Someone needs to get the new Megasquirt MS3 with MS3x and make the other companies realize what you can do for around 500 bucks...
When I get some $$$ together I'm converting to EFI with a turbo, and I'll be damned if I pay that much for engine management!

I have some friends that work for Mototron-they actually design, build and write the code for ecus that can control just about anything.I learned alot about controls and learned how gereric most of this stuff is.
this is why my car will not have a mainstream ecu.

We have a few cars at the shop running Motec, they are quite flexible, and can do a ton of crazy stuff.
The retail quote I got from our rep for a Motec system with dash, and controls for everything, with a lot of bells and whistles, but not all of them, was a touch over $17K for my V8 setup.

I was just watching some videos from the Outlaw Drag radial race in Georgia last weekend. You guys would have had the whole field covered by at least 2 tenths. I think the fastest qualifying time I saw was a 74. I dont recall seeing anyone in the 60's. I saw what looked like Brady's car wheelie several times getting in and out of it.

You guys looked into the new PRO-EFI system? Originally released for the Supra guys but seems to be a pretty good system with ALL options and priced what i consider cheap for what you get.I'll be trying one out on my gte powered gs300 shortly

If I remember the quote from Motec included everything and some stuff that wasn't really needed or you could farm out elsewhere. The 17k is not just the ignition box. If I remember correctly it had the box with every upgrade, ignition box, coils, EGTs, EGT box, dash, all sensors, traction control, logger.
BS3 2200
Dash connection 400
16 injectors 1300
Traction control 600
ETM Module 250
Racepak v300sd 1800
EGT Module and EGTs 1500
MSD Ignition box + coil 1200
Racepak dash 800
Distributor setup 2000
Thats 12k for the basic setup to make a ton of power no including a few small things and all the sensors.
The motec has plenty of inputs for additional logging where the racepak is essentially 300-500 for any one thing you want to add by the time you factor in the sensor and the adapter.

i have about $10,000 in my ecu, sensors and ignition.
that includes
capability to run up to 24 injectors
egt's with active fuel control
log up to 50 channels-digital and analog
up to 8 wideband 02 sensors-i got 2-sensors will read from 2.2-18 afr
will run 2 electronic tb's
i got the sensors for the engine-trans,driveshaft,turbo speed
has traction control
8 coils packs
36 tooth reluctor wheel
cam sensor
it has a bunch of other features as well-but would take too long to list
some of this stuff you can't even get from bs3 and it would still cost you $12,000.00

I might get flamed for this but does anyone have any experience with the AEM unit? I definitly cant afford 10k in for a EFI system especially for nitrous. You think it would be better to just go 7531 front mount dizzy and a carb, or run a stock ECU or maybe the AEM ecu.
AEM has there unit priced on their website for like $1200. I know it probably doesn't allow you to do all the crazy stuff like BS3 or MOTEC but is worth upgrading to from stock??

Yeah the Motec quote was definitely full of overpriced switches and what not.
As far as the AEM, they are absolute junk. Their customer service is the terrible, and the quality is horrible. The injector drivers, and other major components are garbage. I deal with them on a daily bases, the only good thing going for them is the plug and play aspect, the ability to plug right into the factory harness is nice, and is the only viable option on a lot of import stuff, but, the ease of installation does not outweigh the rest of the system faults in my opinion.
Dont even get me started on the generic software, or worse yet the new V2 software.
You will definitely get what you pay for with that.

i would have to agree with this statement 100%-if you got a 600hp supra,it's a pretty good deal-but for anything else-not so good. The drivers are def junk.

I agree as well, I have one of the few that actually work in my supra, but I have sent back at least 50 units to get fixed in the past 4 years. The motec is a really nice system and the flexibility in how you caN setup the various maps is awesome.
