Default Updated - 403 Race Motor with Dyno Video

After many months, the project is almost complete. After my last motor (347) which had issues from the start, my new 403 is almost complete. We are going to the dyno on Friday and hope to make 550RWHP and are looking for 9.80 ET at 138 MPH. Below is a list of modifications and your input is welcome. I will post Dyno numbers and charts when complete.

2001 Camaro - 25.5 Cage - tubed front end with strut bars - Car weighs 3200 with driver and fuel.
Transmission Turbo 400 - 5700 stall
Rear - Dana 60/4.11 gears
Engine - new LQ9 block
Heads - Trickflow 215cc, milled to 54cc and significant time hand porting (heads flowed 343cfm)
Pistons - Custom forged
Compression - 13.0
Cam - Solid Roller 258/262, 675/675 112LSA
Crankshaft - 4.0 Stroke Callies Dragonslayer
Rods - Callies Forged Rods
Jesel Shaft Rockers
Intake - Ported Fast 92 and port matched to heads (with dowel pins). We had to have aluminum shims made because intake would not seal on heads.
Headers - American Racing 1 7/8 inch stainless steel

This is a high level overview and I would appreciate your feedback.

Thanks,

CoopZ06

Why such a small cam for a race motor?

Sounds like all the ingredients for a race motor. Curious why you didn't get the new FAST 102 and port it, or did you already have the FAST 92?

Best of luck hitting those goals. 5700 stall, wow, she's gonna fly off the line !!

Thanks for the comments. The builder spec'd the cam, I'm just an accountant and weekend driver. I already had the 92mm intake from the last motor and would have liked to do a Becks sheetmetal intake, but my budget would only go so far.

I am sure that cam is big enough. Should make good power. Good luck!

What did your builder use for springs for the solid roller. What diameter, seat pressure, etc. If you have that info. Sounds like a nice setup with the car weight I think you will realize your goals once it is dialed in.

I just checked my invoice and it says the valve springs are Comp dual 944-16 (1.57 inch diameter). The open pressure is 755LBS and the seat pressure is 190LBS at 1.95 inches. We had to make the spring seats larger due to the diameter of the valve springs and reinforce the base with some type of spring seat cup. Hope this helps and I will post the graph when we are done with the tune. I did find out our reservation with the Tuner is now for June 2nd. Apparently there was an accident outside the shop where the tuning is done and some of the staff were injured.

Going to the Dyno today for tuning and weather permitting, to the track on Friday. Should have numbers in the morning.

Sounds very very close to my setup and I have to agree that the FAST intake should be left to the stock bottom end guy's cause they are nothing but a bottle kneck for these bigger motors! Mine makes peak power at 6000RPM and with the cam I have in mine should be closer to 65-6700! I'm switching to a Vic Jr and Accufab 4150 and see what happens.

So how big are the original 215cc runners with all the handporting? 343 cfms is good amount. My TFS 215cc milled to 59cc with no additional work are supposed to flow 328. You really went to town.

That's pretty good considering my TFS235's flow sheet show 347cfm @ .600"

Default Update - Dyno on Saturday at 12PM

We had another delay but the car has now been delivered to the tuner and I have an appoitment at 12PM Saturday. I will video the final run and post up the graph.

The heads were previously milled to 54cc chambers (old motor). A significant amount of time was spent on the intake runners and chamber.

So is the runner more along the lines of a custom 225 cc or 230 cc runner now ?
