Default Patrick G. cam results

Well I had Patrick G. spec me a custom cam a while back and he recommended a 230/232 110+2. But it came as ground as a 231.41/233.37 111+2. Not enough of a difference to complain about. Anyways my modifications are as follows: the cam, Pace Setter LT's, ORY, Magnaflow cat-back, ported TB, SLP lid, and a K&N air filter. Vengeance informed me of this and I wasn't aware of it but a K&N air filter loses 5-7 whp to a paper filter. Yeah I couldn't believe it. I have never heard that before but the K&N is coming out. I didn't buy a UD pulley because it would have put me out of my already blown budget. But anyways here's what I got, everybody feel free to give me your thoughts and tell me what you think.
Edit: M6, Stock heads, 2001 WS-6

Very nice numbers!!! I was unaware of losing power with the K&N. I might get rid of mine now. Hows the street manners with this cam?

The street manners are just fine. The only time it surges or bucks is when I'm coasting it will surge if your below 17-1800. But if you going uphill or there's load on the motor there's no problem.

There is tuning left to be done if it is still surging at 17-1800. With that much overlap, sometimes it's a balancing act trying to get the aiflow down but having enough base airflow to keep it returning to idle and idling properly. It takes some time to get it right. It would be nice to have 2-3 cold starts for testing as well.

Nice results, it doesn't surprise me to see you guys get around 390-400 with that cam. It is a very good profile! As for the surge, just like Steve said, a couple of cold start and it little more time invested and you shouldn't have any surging.

Cams in that duration and LSA range work sooooo well with stock heads. Just look at the curves down low and up high. It's really good everywhere. A cam that would make more peak power would typically lose more down low than it would gain up high. Same for a cam in search of more low-end. This is a very balanced cam. Thanks for sharing the results. I love seeing a stock-headed car pull so nicely after peak power.

on gauze filters losing power to a paper one. They might not gain a lot, but they're not gonna lose a damn thing.

Congrats on your newfound power

well, I've always thought the same thing but without some really hard data I'm sure not going to dispute someone that does this stuff for a living.

Yeah I think it worked out really well. I think after I get some Tru-duals and a UD pulley it should really put down some nice #'s for a cam only car. Thanks again for your services.

They said that the paper filter had more surface area then the K&N. They said that they tested a couple years back and they have the equipment to test it so I'm not going to argue with them. I don't see what reason they would have to make that up.

Good numbers!

As for the K&N filter thing. I had a paper filter in my 1999 Grand Prix GT. I dynoed it and then swapped out for a used K&N drop in and it gained 2 hp across the powerband. I'll try it again with my Z28 next time I dyno it though.
