Default 02 Maggied TA

Got the TA back from getting a new clutch and more tunning and was amazed to see it pute down 473hp and 453tq. It's still completely stock except for the blower( no headers, stock y-pipe, stock internals). I have a print out of the dyno but no scanner, any ideas on how to get it up here?

Not bad at all. With LT's and an ORY you should hit 500 rwhp for sure. How much boost are you running?

Wow, sounds great. That must be a fun car to drive.

Before I got I scanner I took a digital pic of my dyno printout and posted it that way, looked OK.

Why? It is a stock longblock. As long as he is not reving it to high hell it should be fine. Keep it under 6200 and no problems.

Boost pressure on the back of the intake valve for one.

Excellent! That will just hold the valve open longer for more charge like a longer duration cam!

Boost pressure will never open a valve. Closed pressure is like 100psi.

It is to help your valve close and avoid letting them hang open and float.

Again, boost will not let the valve hang open and unless you are reving past 6200, you will not have float on a stock cam with stock springs. Actually you are more likely to bust a spring reving past 6200 than you are to float the valve with stock cam and springs.

Do no not waste money on springs unless you are doing a cam swap.

The boost will have effect on valve control. It wont "force the valve open" but it will be added force that the valve spring will have to deal with.

just say for a 2.02" valve, the area is about 3.2 in^2

If you're running say 8 pounds of boost, that's 3.2*8 = 25.6 extra pounds of force against the valve when it's shut. Obviously this will be a lower amount of force when the valve is opening/shutting, but for cars on the edge of valvetrain control, its a good idea to have better springs.

That is assuming the valve is completely closed. When open it is obviously bleeding into the cylinder so you are nowhere near that 25.6pounds (which would be even less since you have to consider area taken away by the stem[probably 20% or so]), and the spring is over 100psi at closed and exponentially higher at lift. Better springs are good when the cam is more aggressive. But until then, the stockers will do.

Oh, i definitely agree, but my point was that boost will affect valve control to some degree. From anecdotal stories you hear in the FI section, people have had positive experiences from stepping up to better springs.
