Damn is that some misinformation... 13.xx ANYTHING from a C5z... Hell my GF could hop in one and drive it better than that.
Anything is possible with shitty drivers taken into account... Put a shitty driver in a 5th gen and a good one in the C5 and the C5 will mop it... And the other way around. Both equal drivers the 5th gen will win, ESPECIALLY from a roll.
That goes for any way you want to match up any two cars.
And comparing a C5z to a base model C5.... That is just comical to say the least. They already have TI exhaust, ls6 heads, ls6 cam, etc etc etc... There is no comparison there, period.

By the way back on topic, I think an auto C5 LS1 would lose to the new Ford Mustang GT. A 6-speed would be closer, I still think it would lose. You'd need a hardtop (i.e. lighter) M6 FRC or similar LS1 vette to keep up/possibly beat one.

The C5Z should have no problems. But let's put a reality check here. The C5z is a C5 with an extremely mild heads/cam package, gearing and some weight savings. It's a great package, but it's not a large difference over the base car the way the C6z is compared to the C6. That's not meant to be a put down on the C5z. Just some people tend to overemphasize the differences.

Yes, they have a mild heads/cam package for an additional 50hp, a gearing advantage and about 100lbs of weight savings (which a lot of Z06 owners negate partially by going with aftermarket wheels and exhaust). A mild cam, 4.10 gears and little weight shaving on a C5 6spd coupe or FRC would be about even.

You're putting a lot of emphasis on the small differences between an FRC and a properly equipped coupe. The weight difference isn't all that much. Either one would have an equal chance. And I would say it's a drivers race for either car.

Anybody check this new comparison out? If not please read!!
http://www.insideline.com/2011-ford-mustang.html
ok so from what i gathered someone FINALLY did a test on an 2011 Mustang GT with all season tires which is STANDARD instead off all summer tires on the 11gt... As you see tires makes a difference( which we all know).. All season tires with 3.73 gears posted times of only 13.3 at 107.3 and with the summer tires (same test) posted a 13.0 at 110.6... I wonder what the test numbers would have been if they tested the all season tires with the Standard 3.31gears???
Ok now I wonder why no one has done a test with the STANDARD 3.31 gears or 3.55 gears for that matter. Of course that will make the car slower with these gears maybe that why they didn't test them. People are making it seem like the 11gt is all this and that like it comes STANDARD WITH SUMMER TIRES AND STANDARD WITH 3.73 GEARS! If it did that would be great but in reality it doesn't. It will be plenty of 11gt's purchased STANDARD with 3.31 gears and STANDARD all season tires which make them much slower!!
Matter of fact it only seems to be a tick faster than a 10 ss with the OPTIONAL summer tires and OPTIONAL 3.73gears. So all this talk of how much faster it is than a 10ss can stop. Yea it is a LITTLE fast but ONLY WITH THOSE OPTIONS of summer tires and 3.73!
( no im not biased i just state facts! I actually like the 11 stang and waiting on the 1st test for the 11gt500..aluminum block dropped 100+pds added 10hp. now 550hp)
Back to he topic... C5 vs 11gt? Thats the reason i stated all the above. It seems as the combo of the 11gt will determine the outcome. If the combo is summer tires and 3.73 gears i think the stang will win from a dig. Any other combo of gears (3.31 or 3.55 gears) and summer or all season tires and i think the c5 will win have equal drivers. We already seen what a 11gt will do with 3.73 gears and all season tires based on this test. 13.3 at 107.3.. A C5 can do that with a little higher trap speed!
C5 vs 11gt Roll race? It just depends on the combo of tires and gears you purchase from the factory. Although if its a medium to high roll tires won't make much of a difference.
Now what really sucks is when someone races a random guy with an 11gt on the street and you beat him from a roll or a dig and get all happy and your going to think to yourself, " damn i wonder if he had 3.73 or 3.55 or standard 3.31 gears" lol.. You won't know! And even if they had 3.73gears and you beat them and ask them what gears do they have, more than likely they will lie and say 3.31 to avoid embarrassment lol
I see ppl in here talking about c5z vs 11gt?? thats just dumb to compare them! Compare the c5z to an 2010 gt500 and you will see the c5z will win. Based on individual test numbers (of course they wont compare the to as its a big age difference)
c5z also traps higher than a 2010 gt500 in every test from a popular source. (even the 01z with 385hp still traps right around or a little higher based on individual test numbers)

Stock record for the 10 SS is 12.58...the car has been out for 1 year. Stock record for c5 corvette is 12.79 and has been on the road for 13 years. Enough said.
2011 mustang GT looks like it may have about a tenth or two advantage at most on the 5th gen SS...its a very close race with the EDGE going to the mustang.
That being said...if the 5th gen can beat a c5 corvette, I would deduce that a new mustang could as well.
But people talking about people getting spanked...no that wont happen...all three of these cars are very close and a driver can more than make the difference.

Thats not what Car and Driver just released-looks like the edge goes to the SS.

Did Car and Driver actually bother to test both cars at the same time/same day for this comparo, or pull the best (only?) numbers they've run w/ the '10 SS?
Their last ZR1 vs 911 TT comparo used the ZR1s numbers from a year or more earlier, didn't actually run the cars against each other for the true test data...

Quoted for truth.
My "base model C5" which technically is a fixed roof coupe, ran a 12.80 @ 112 with headers and CAI as the only mods (stock exhaust), this was with a granny launch 1.90 60'. Since then I've added B&B Bullets and an LS6 intake. I don't think I'd have any problem running a 12.50 @ 115 as it sits...bolt on C5. This is just for reference. That being said, I will line up against a 2011 GT and not be afraid at all.

magazine racing doesn't mean squat.
Should be a good race between the stock C5 and stock 11Gt. Just like Demarco said above. It depends on what options are on BOTH the cars.
I will say it is about time that Ford got a better motor in the Mustang to compete with the SRT-8 and the SS camaro. All 3 are great cars.
We will just have to wait and see when the new 11 Gt's hit the street.

the 2011 GT is going to be way under rated power wise,,,, anyone remember the 390 hp that the 03-04 cobra supposedly put out at the flywheel? they typically DYNO'D 390!!! Ford is pulling the same thing here. Its probably their way of avoiding another performance recall like they did on the older DOHC cobra when they didn't put out nearly the advertised power.
