Default Bittersweet night at gville raceway, updated dyno results on new engine

Well, last night of test and tune and cool air sent me out to try and get my 11 second bolt on slip. Came very close, best run was 12.093@114.26 mph with a 1.780 60'. As closing came along, I had one more chance to get it after a good cool down. Well launch felt good and as I cross the 1/8th mile, shifting into 4th the car starts to sputter violently and then a loud bang. I look in the rear view and see nothing but smoke :-( . Pull to the side and get towed to the parking lot. Engine is toast! Oil was everywhere but no obvious damage to the pan/block from what I could see underneath and from the top. My money is gonna be on a #7 ringland, but we will see. I'll probably have some time to pull her apart next weekend and get some carnage pics.

Not sure what I'm gonna do with her now, as I'm still in school and don't have any money to put anything worthwhile in there. I'll just have to save up and wait til I'm done with school and just prep her for an engine swap until then.

i was there. seen you racing every lap..didnt notice your car smoking.. wasnt paying attention probably. that sucks. the other silver camaro with the black rims with polished lips broke down too i guess. they pushed it to the side in the staging lane.

i saw the black 03/04 cobra pass one time and he couldnt drive it very good. i left after that.

do u think its gonna be packed on saturday test and tune? its the last race. i was thinking of running my 04 cobra...if its not packed. i dont want a bunch of people watching me. i have some mickey thompsons i'm gonna get mounted.

It will probably be busy. I still might head up to watch anyways since I was planning on going before the engine went anyways.

was it your daily driver? what are u gonna drive now?

is the engine really toasted or did the oil pour over the engine and cause it to smoke from the oil hitting the hot exhaust?

I'm sure the engine is done. Not my daily, got three other cars I can drive :-). It's my toy, so no big deal to have it sit for awhile. I didn't see any obvious "windows". I'll find out more once I get her on the lift.

It might not be that bad. The gator game is at 1230 so a lot of ppl will be tailgating and such that day.

....I'm not gonna remove this engine just to put another LS1 in it . Something bigger/better will be in there eventually, but money is the issue for right now while I'm still in school.

It had around 105,000 miles. Got it up on the lift last night and gave a good look underneath. Looks to be mostly coolant, but there is oil everywhere too. Looks like a lot came out of the #4 spark plug hole somehow. I'll start ripping into her today to find out more. Still didn't see any obvious cracks, holes, or missing plugs.

One of the guys I rent the shop with runs a plumbing business and is letting me use his borscope, thanks though! Chances are the heads are coming off anyways.

Alright, I'm at my shop now tearing her down. No need for a borscope, since when I pulled the lid off there was a coolant/oil mixture oozing out of the tb blade. I'm getting close to start taking the heads off. Sorry now pics yet as I'm posting from my iPhone.

Alright, got the passenger side head pulled and fears were confirmed. At least #6 piston is cracked and definitely not connected to the crank. I think I got pretty far with her today, considering I was taking my time, labeling parts, and bagging bolts since she'll be down for awhile. Started around 12:30 and quit around 9pm. Here are the pics

not a good sign when you see this after taking off the lid

And the breakdown process

#5 looking a little wet

8, 6, and 2 also wet

And the carnage....#6 is done for....sleeve and all!!!

and the head

And the one headed monster
