I am in the process of gathering parts for a supercharger build for a c5 with 189k miles on it.
We plan on replacing all the essentials, such as the timing gear, chain, oil pump, valve springs, injectors, hoses, plugs...
What else should i think about? The car has been babied its whole life, and wont be spun over 4500 rpms.

Just my humble opinion.

approaching 20 lbs boost on a bone stock factory sealed 225k mile 5.3 in a 99 Silverado. Over 5000 daily driver type miles, lots of wot street runs while testing and tuning this custom combo.
- Type of Forced Induction T70 Turbo
- Type of fuel- Straight PROPANE
- Boost Amount 18+ lbs
- Miles on the car when FI installed 220K
- Miles ran since FI has been on the car (ie: current mileage) 225K

starts at 12lbs settles to 9lbs,
stock bottom ls1
ls9 headgaskets/arp studs @85ftlbs
317
E85
632/650 on a dynojet (@22* timing)
The car is at 19* now and it made these numbers with stock 853s, stock hg's, and stock head bolts. it blew the driver gasket and Idk what it makes now. probably the same.
installed at 48k at 50k now still going strong. only time I drive it is to beat on it

Ok, I'm on my third Vodka Martini and as I read some of this with much interest and it makes me go back many years to an opinion that I formed. I was wrenching on the NASCAR#9 Coulter Pontiac with Russ Hepler as driver in 1956. The head Mechanic "Dangerous” Dave Dangerfield" later built a double A? fuel Dragster with twin 1956 Pontiac 316 CI motors with TRW forged pistons, stock bottom end with the same junk yard bearings that the engines came with. Jimmy blowers, pulleys made from melting pistons in coffee cans and machined on his lath. His milling machine was out of the scrap yard with a 39 Ford floor shift transmission for changing speeds. I have to shift the belt on my SuperMax. Dave was commissioned by a Drag Strip Promoter to build it and create a lot of tire smoke to rev up the crowd. The engines stay together under boost and using fuel, Dave did some match races with Eddie Hill's twin Pontiac. They put on a great show according to Dave. I was Flying F4's out of Ubon, Thailand at the time (1965) and miss seeing and can only repeat what he told me. The meat of the story is and my opinion only, and I know that most of you that have been doing this for awhile will agree: is if AFRs and timing are reasonable for the build, it will run for a while. I always wondered about these super expensive rods, cranks and pistons, they let some fumble through the initial tuning without doing damage if they do pay some attention.
Dave was killed at Beeline Dragway? AZ around 1966 in a Chrysler AA Fuel, Don Gartlis clone. He was seen going through the traps head down, WFO. Speculation was the fumes from the Nitro and his WW2 gas mask didn't filter out the fumes and he passed out.
With this in mind, I hope my LS1 stays together with 11.3 to 1, 224*224*112* and 6? psi with menthanol and stock short block.
Thanks for listening, Dave was a real motor head and great guy.

I ran a totally stock longblock 2001 LQ4 (arp rod bolts/LS9 gaskets/gapped top ring). PTE 88mm turbo and homemade W2A intercooler. The car made 571whp @ 11psi through a th400 & 9" (17* timing). I ran all year long at 15psi and ran 10.28 @ 133mph (650ish WHP). After 180 passes the season was wrapping up and we turned the boost up to 18 and the car spun bad 3 times (I think this is where I hurt the motor) and I was able to run it out from there, crap ET but it did run 136.8mph. My car is 4050lbs race weight. Using Wallace Racing calculator, it says that mph and weight equals north of 740whp. After that pass the engine started a slight clicking noise so we stop running it and took it home. I just recently took the engine apart and everything was perfect except for the 3 rods I removed that looked like the attached picture.
If you look at "clean spot" I marked with an arrow, you will see where the rod was so folded up the the wrist pin/skirt area was touching the counter weight of the crank at the bottom of the stroke causing the chirping/clicking noise I heard after the pass. Neat stuff for stock parts. Needless to say we were very impressed with what the stock engine took and how well it preformed.

I am wanting to make a comparative list of how long the LS1 stock bottom end has lasted under boost and eventually make it a sticky. Generally I see everyone say 550rwhp, I just want to see how valid this statement roughly is.
So the people I want to reply in the thread are ones who have ran boost on a stock bottom end (pistons, rings, rods). Even if you broke something in the motor, still post up. Post only cars you own(ed).
Here is the format I'd like to see it in:
- Type of Forced Induction (Turbo/Supercharger)
- Boost Amount / RWHP
- Miles on the car when FI installed
- Miles ran since FI has been on the car (ie: current mileage)
- IF you broke the motor, list what was broken.
===================================
T76 Turbo
8lbs.
engine swap 73,xxx on engine
3,000miles
nothing broken, burnt up stock clutch of course.

stock bottom end LS1 433hp 498tq at wheels with dry NOS
I was spraying 100hp shot of NOS into the MAS and made 433hp and 498ftlbtq and ran 12.20's at 126mph on Yokohama a032's and a suspension set up for road racing. I never broke the bottom end and it was a 98 Formula Gold with a LS1. I did break the 6 speed, rearend and clutch and flywheel and pressure plate. Pontiac warrantied it ( 6 speed, rearend, driveshaft, U joints) when it had 35,800 miles on it and I took it to the dealer with the race compounds, numbers on the doors and hood and a full bottle of NOS!!!!!! I LOVE PONTIAC!!!!!!!! questions? call 630 442 8749....ask for Scott , Single Performance.
