so i have the motor down to the block... what can i use to clean the parts. the block is getting sent out for honing, cam bearings, cleaned etc. but the rods, rockers, lifters etc. i'd like to get them all cleaned up and then re oiled but i don't want to do any damage(if that's possible from cleaning them) i heard someone say just soak them in gas and then oil them after they are clean. any input, info ?

please elaborate, i was told this iron block(98 to 2002) was the block to have. i was going to use the stock bottom end just put new bearings and rings(gapped for turbo) in it. from what i read it should hold up to just about anything i throw at it. I'm a newbie to wrenching so if you have any ideas please share

Well, the L33 which is what I am using came in 2005+ silverados and probably some other vehicles, but is an aluminum block that weighs 80+ lbs less and has super thick sleeves. When I measured them they were around .240 thick. The last Darton aftermarket sleeves I measured were around .264 which is still super thick, but the L33 comes pretty close right from the factory! The rods in the 2005+ block are supposed to be better as well.
