I have to ***** foot a little because I have a shallow wallet. I know shallow wallets and boost does not go together

So i noticed that after a hard few pulls i pulled in a parking lot and the cooling fans were in over run mode even after i turned car off and walked away from the car they were still running. So i know its getting up around 225 degrees. I already had to deal with a air pocket in the cooling system on the dyno but we got that resolved. I realized it would probably get a little warm on the street boosting a couple times in a row.

So last night i just took the thermostat out. Engine was cold so i cranked back up and let it run till fans come on. Usually it would only take 4 to 5 min for fans to come on but this time it took like 15 so i know its running way cooler at first. Then i took it up the road and run hard through the gears over and over and over just right near my house. Even boosted it hard before i pulled in driveway. When i turned car off, no fans running so i believe its running way cooler now.

The gauge in these cars sucks. It says im running 210 4 minutes after start up regardless. Im gonna drive the car back to work on my lunch break after it warms up today and hook scan tool to it and see what the pcm is saying the ect truly is. That way i will know what temp is getting to after a hard pull and if it cools back down.

Anyone have similar issues??? Or input on this matter?

I fought cooling issues when I finished my build last fall. I had bought cheap puller fans, that others got to work with their setups, but mine weren't cooling at all. I cut and trimmed the stock fans to fit and all was ok. The other night however, it was up in the high 70's, low 80's and I was running over 200 degrees. Once I got up over 40 mph it started cooling down though. I have HPTuners so I always know what temps my car is at which is nice. I am thinking of picking up an Aeroforce gauge though so I don't always have to carry the laptop around.

My ECT's climb after doing pulls and that is to be expected. I have 3 holes drilled in the thermostat also. FWIW, my fans are programmed to run for 90 seconds after the car shuts off.

Yeah i have stock fans as pushers. They move a TON of air. I probably will have to upgrade radiators eventually.

My old set-up would always sit at 160-180. I didn't do the turbo install, Mightymouse did, but whatever he used it worked really well. It had a Griffin radiator as well.

Yeah im probably gonna have to get a thicker radiator. Even with thermostat out on my way back from lunch a few minutes ago on highway it will stay below 200 even if i boost it a few times but when i get in town in the stopped traffic it creeps up to 210 the tops out at 213. Fans are flowing plenty of air in my opinion. Probably get a turbo blanket and then maybe get a griffin. Even though ill have to change some stuff to make it fit.

through it away.... driving is not the issue. Sittin in traffic is lol. I probably will order the biggest griffin I can fit in there and that turbo blanket soon. Will have to change some stuff around. But it needs to run cooler. Like Martin said 160-180ish.

I did neither just the 160° stat. I did go in hp tuners and adjust the fan temp. Got them coming on at 165.

mine seem to come on around 195. Have you mashed on it a time after time then checked the temp? Mine will stay in low 190s even with i do that on a 70 degree day but a 80 degree day it will get to like 204 degrees driving then if i get in traffic and sit a while it has gotten to 215 and then cools down a little when i get moving again. Like you said if i get the turbo blanket it should help a lot of the heat from turbo house right against the back of the radiator.

IAT's stay around 73 degrees driving and boosting on a 70 degree day even with no wrapping pipes underhood so intercooler is definitly doing its job.

The stock radiator should be more than fine. If I were you I would try and find the shroud for the radiator and run a turbo blanket. The shroud would make a difference. Also, 215* isn't that hot, if you are staying around 195-205 you will be ok.

Oh ya I was on it all day yesterday and it got up to about 187 highest with cruising temps 181 iat were about 85 and it was 81 yesterday obviously those will go up but seems to work great so far I was actually surprised since I have no wrap on my pipes
