Got back out yesterday for 8.50 index race at Cecil County.

Still need to work on that 60’ time… but, I’m getting good data and know some of the changes I need to make in the tuneup.

Round 1 loss to the #1 qualifier on a double breakout. But, 8.40@168 is a new PB for me, so, there’s that…

Thanks!

28psi with 14 dome. 12 degrees of timing. 250 degrees air temp

The car is super stable and as the boost comes in, it pulls hard. Then the parachute comes out and throws me into the harness…

data shows 10psi at 4100 transbrake release. Immediately drops 5 degrees of timing at the release and brings it back in within 1.5 seconds.

13.5:1 CR using Ignite Red.

It looks like you are off to a good start!

Why are you pulling any timing at all on the hit? Looking at that 60' you can certainly hit it harder and I feel like using any timing retard on release is a last resort when you can't get it under control.

Since it sounds like you are using a race timer and CO2 for boost control, where is boost all in?

I agree that it doesn’t appear to need any timing pulled during launch. We set it up like this to ensure the car went down the track to get some solid data. Now that I have that data, and can see how it’s doing, I’ll eliminate the timing pull.

so, with no dome pressure, it makes 10psi on the brake - 4100rpm. The ramp from 0 to 14 starts at 1 second and is fully in by 4.2 seconds.

Clearly, I can push it harder. That’s what testing is for.

Also, I don’t need 28psi to run the 8.50 index.

For my next pass, I’ve eliminated the timing pull at launch, and changed the ramp to be all in by 2.5 seconds, but only 10 on the dome.

And, then go from there…

I’m quite curious how quick it would run with just the waste gate spring pressure, and how much creep I’d see.

If it’s still too quick after the changes I mentioned above, I’ll try that.

Test - read data, adjust

Test - read data, adjust

Test - read data, adjust

That’s the only way to learn what the car wants…

With your setup on a good track you should be all in by 1.5 seconds, on a marginal track it might be around 2.0 seconds but no later than that. Once you get the 330 down the rest will follow.

I believe just over 2,800.

I do need to weigh it again, as I’ve changed a few things around.

I plan to take it back to Fark’s over the winter for a few upgrades.

You have the right idea on the tuning process and agree about going down track and getting data vs blowing tires off but you are really soft on the launch and boost ramp IMO. Looking at that vide it will take alot more. Every combo is different but to give you idea here is what I run on a good track, no launch retard and have full boost in by 1.5 secs (35psi). On my off the trailer tune I run a 5 deg retard over 1.2 seconds and a 2 second boost ramp (28psi). Everywhere we go our pass I run the same tune off the trailer for 2 reasons, one to test track and other is to check car since it will 100% go down on that tune and also make sure everything is working (shifter, boost control parachute etc.)

Over the years I've seen folks take Pete's approach and others take the other approach, which is working the 60 and the general front half.

I've been kinda working the same way as Pete, we started with a 2 second ramp, and chopped that to 1.5 after two passes, and now I'm around 1.2.
