lol tomorrow I'm going to take it to my tuner and let him look over it and if he thinks we can squeeze a little more out of it then I may turn it up. If not then I'll leave it alone until I decide to do away with hp tuners and put a good ecu on it. I just havent done it yet because one of the guys on here told me about the new hp tuners ecu thats coming out and im interested in that versus the holley

I think he made a version recently that also uses one of the pcm outputs as a pwm driver for a mac valve to control boost.

I could show my tuner this but honestly I have no clue what that means. I just know I have a stock ecu and I'm on hp tuners and was told my operating system was only good for 14 to 15 pounds.

That's when you use a 2 bar map sensor you max out at 1 bar of boost. You can certainly run more boost than that if you have the right sensors and OS.

if they have a 3 bar setup in the tune then you can run 28 psi without maxxing it out.

For some inexplicable reason, they set his tune up with the correct info for the 3bar sensor, but only used a 2bar hpt os.

so what needs to be done then? The original tuner is the one who setup the map sensor and then the second tuner just dialed in the tune

You would need to change to a 3bar OS, which would require a significant amount of time retuning the newly expanded VE table. This is one of the reasons I made the comment far back in this thread about some of these things being much easier when you do your own tuning. A pro tuner would need compensation for this significant amount of time. And, of course, the higher boost narrows your safe window of error in the tune.

I don't mind paying the tuner, that's no issue, I'd like the truck to get into to 10's. If 14 or 15 psi isnt going to get me there then I definitely won't be satisfied. So basically what your telling me is I don't need to physically change anything on the truck, it can all be done with tuning correct? Because I was under the impression I had to get a different ecu to accomplish anything more then that. My tuner is fairly close to me so it's not to hard to take the truck over there.

If you have enough fuel and turbo size to accommodate more boost, all you will need is a copy of your original tune from before the custom operating system was changed to 2 bar. That file will need to be converted to a 3bar OS, then you just import all of the needed changes from the already tuned file. After that the new 3bar VE table will have to be tuned, and likely some changes to the spark table will be needed because even 2bar setups max out the g/cyl of the stock spark table. If you no longer have your original tune it can still be done, but more annoying steps are required.

ok, ill definitely have that conversation with him today. Appreciate it, and even if any of those things become a limit I can always go back and make mechanically changes down the line knowing there's room for improvement in the tune.

that is very odd. Seems like the tuner should redo that on his dime if he didnt set it up right originally. Wouldn't you be able to take the 2 bar VE table and repop it in the 3 bar VE map in the same spots and just tune above 2 bar? I.e. its not a from scratch.

The original tuner that screwed me over is the one who set it up so I wouldn't dare let him touch it again but I'm on my way to the tuner I've been using as of lately and I'll definitely give him that information. He may of not realized what the original guy did

Ok im finished, we went 16 pounds on it. He said turning it up much more with this 76mm turbo won't do me much good and he also did notice the map sensor thing. He attempted to convert to 3bar and something wasn't excepting it. He wants me to come back in March and he wants to put an ecu from a cat eye truck in it and put a different turbo with a bigger exhaust housing and change my down pipe from 3" to 4" but in the meantime I'll enjoy it like this. It's pretty quick and enjoyable like it is.
