Default TH400 loss over 6spd from PTK 88 car.

For those that maybe interested...my customer called and dynoed his PTk kit car with the 88 again with a Th400 this time and 24psi. Car made previously 1012rwhp/909rwtq with the 6spd. He said the car dynoed 922rwhp/898rwtq. He was not a happy camper....but just thought some of you might want to know the difference. I know this is often asked. So looks like an additional 10% loss on top of what a 6spd soaks up. Not to bad, but not to good either.

WOW that is a lot of power to lose to the drivetrain..
I'd like to see how his track times suffer...hope they don't

I'll bet he gets a much quicker track time even though its less power to the wheels...

Yes, the ET will drop significantly, and the mph will still rise. Remember may make less peak power now. But down the track it makes more average hp now. The hp/spool losses from each shift of the 6spd are now non-existant.

i have seen anywhere fron 60-100rw loss between a M6 and TH400 on cars ranging from 500-800rw. Heck I lost 80-85rwhp going from a M6 to a lightweight internal TH350 with and aluminum driveshaft at only 500rwhp with a PT4200 Yank.

I dont think you can hang a set number on it really, lot depends on the converter like Gator said.

I was thinking the same thing. I thought that wasn't as much of a loss as I was expecting him to say. I guess when automatic transmission came into my head, I just "automatically" thought powerglide with a loose converter since many switch to a glide.

I lost a little over 60 rwhl hp switching from a 4l60e with a tight vig convertor, to a loose 4400 th400 tranny and a bigger steel driveshaft.

I make 754rwhp thru a T400, and my peak rwhp was similar with two different converters.

Very interesting indeed. This is a good example for that "Is drivetrain loss a percentage or defined amount" discussion. Seems to be a percentage.

Yeah, I'm freshening up the driveline, making some slight changes (like staged BS3), and doing some detailing.

Been working on it all the time, but still have a long way to go.

I'm assuming this is the LT1 383 that previously had the McLeod twin disk setup, full accessories and ran a 158 trap @ like 9.6 or something close to that?

Great info!

That car is going to FLY with the TH400 in it. Launch at full boost off transbrake, NO boost loss through shifts. It is going to be INSANE. I bet ET will drop a ton and mph will go up a lot as well

Wheelie bars on the car?
