Forced Inductions carries them, I plan to buy two for my car soon as I have a few bux to spare. I think they are about $75

When I do that and wrap my downpipe I'm hoping to lower my in bay temps by a few degrees.

Give Jose a shout at Forcedinductions.com. I talked to him last week and they were getting more in this week. They help with temps a bit.

I remember hearing that they reduced the life of turbos because of how they retained heat, any merit to this?

Good question... I would assume at first glance that, because they're exhaust housings after all, they would not be affected by their own heat and that the turbo blanket would prevent some heat from escaping around the engine compartment. Moreover, I assumed it did all this with no consequence to the turbo...

If you guys need turbos or hot parts, give us a call, we'll be happy to help.

As for heat, any time you run a turbo, you should ALWAYS allow a generous amount of time for cool down. Along the same lines, before getting on the gas, I like to allow ample warm up time.

Good questions and comments in here. So, what is the benefit to running a turbo blanket? Is it just to keep underhood temps down, or is there a benefit to power?

Also, what is the best way to insulate surrounding pieces from the turbo heat (say power steering lines)? Should I use exhaust wrap and a turbo blanket, or should I use some heat reflective wrap on the steering lines?

It could be both. It keeps the heat from the housing off the other parts and it keeps the heat in the turbine whick could help spool time. I got my housing coated and Im using a blanket. Gotta help the temps everyway possible.

Yup I have some on order as well. Usually they take a while to get. The manufacture that makes them for Forcedinductions is slow. Jason at Forcedinductions is looking for another manufacture already. They are definitely worth the money also. Probably cuts underhood temps by 200-300 degs or so.

What about raising the temp of the oil? Could that be a negative effect?
