Default Over 100psi at the rail

Ok, I've been playing with my tuning since I have Racetronix 38lb/hr injectors. No matter what values I placed in the IFR table, it came out fat. Finally had a chance to put a gauge on the rail tonight and pegged it. Showing well over 100psi at key on, and running. Here's a quick run down of my fuel system, where did I go wrong.

1999 Camaro orignally a V6
Stock V6 fuel tank
Stock V6 fuel lines
LS1 fuel bucket
Walbro GSS-341 Pump
Stock LS1 fuel rails
Racetronix 38lb/hr injectors

I thought the LS1's were regulated at the bucket? If not, where do I need to regulate? I'm under the impression that I can't use the Vette filter/regulator assembly, since my system is returnless.

You can install a non-return regulator before the rail, it works good.

Ok, so what do I need here to run stock fuel lines, and rails, with an aftermarket regulator using the evap line as a return to the tank?

it sounds like you dont have the regulator working at all. the feed comes out of the tank, goes through the filter, and then t's off back to the return. there was a very useful thread on thirdgen.org about it, but i cant find it now. another option would be to run a c5 vette fuel filter, the regulator is in the filter and it has three ports, in, out, and return

I think the evap line can't flow enough to be used as a return for a fuel regulator. However, your car should have a return line because it was a V6

You can install a returnless regulator, it will work just fine. You can go either way tho

I do have V6 fuel lines and tank which means a dedicated return line and tank port. I really just need to know what to buy!

  • Fuel regulator
  • Fittings
  • Fuel hose
  • Hose clamps
  • Teflon paste or loctite thread sealant (Some regulators have O-ring fittings, so they don't need any sealant)

Get the Vette regulator and put it on the ends of your V6 lines under the hood. Then just run a single line from the output of the regulator up to the fuel rail.

You sir, are a fricking genius. What fittings would I need, and do you sell them?

If your V6 lines will reach to the middle of the fuel rail, just plug the output of the regulator directly on to the rail, and then hook your V6 feed and return lines to the feed and return ports.

Instant filtered and regulated 58 psi.

We're close! I just need a 5/16ths line with quick connect fuel line fittings on each end about a foot long.

The V8 fuel bucket should accept the returning fuel as long as I remove the internal fuel pressure regulator, right?

You said you had a return line still on the car from the V6.

Where's it go??

Your plan won't work too well if the return line just spews out under the car somewhere!

The hard line is still there. It still goes back to the fuel tank. I should have worded that better. My concern was that the V8 bucket doesn't have the right provision to flow fuel back inside. Looks like I just need to remove the regulator though. If someone had a diagram of the top of a fuel bucket, it would be really helpful.

Ok, got it plumbed in tonight. Had to "persuade" the fuel rail inlet a little bit because the regulator wouldn't fit over the coil packs. Had good pressure at 'key on' priming, but went to 85psi at cold idle. I couldn't run the car very long, because it's late, I have bitchy neighbors and open headers. Where ya at Speartech?

A simple check on the return.. Run it to a jug, and see if the FP returns to it's proper value...

Yep. Bad regulator, plugged return line, or possibly if you are using a vapor line instead of an actual fuel return line, these usually have an orifice restricter in the line somewhere and will not work as a return line without modification.

That was my first thought when I saw this, my friends that were 'helping' me said there was no way there could be a restriction down the line causing this. Really, thanks for all your help here!
