Default detroit locker with 6spd car, good or bad?

so i am pretty sure that my trutrac is toast with how much noise its making. so i am considering going to a detroit locker. i am just not sure how it will do with road courses. i know it shoudl be awesome at the track but also how will it be driving the car on the street. and if not a detroit locker then what will hold up to my car. its about 3600lbs with me in it when i drag, and i launch with a two step at 5100rpm on hoosier qtp DOT slicks. she makes 400rwhp and 370 rwtq. this is through a midwest fab 9. i am not worried about noise, relaibility is more of a concern. and comments or suggestions are very welcome

bad, I doubt anyone will say its a good idea with an M6. What rear end are you running?

I run a locker in my 9inch 6spd car. Its a pain in the *** on the street. It will take some getting use to. I'd recommend that you try to drive another car with a locker in it. At the strip it works great, I don't think a locker would be ideal for road course racing though.

Lockers suck *** behind a clutch. I yanked the Detroit locker outta my 9" in favor of a spool and the car is 100% better behaved on the street. Wish i'd have done it years ago.

I ran a detroit Locker 9inch for several years in my 98 Camaro on the Hockenheim ring. It did okay, I got the nuances of locker down with tuning the suspension for the locker. Learned new techniques for making the locker disengage and engage with braking, coasting and accelerating.
When I switched it to a detroit Trutrac I gained almost 3 seconds per lap.

Driving a road course or autox with a locker is doable, but if your not regulated to run one, the Trutrac or other gear drive LSD or the Ford TracLoc would be better.

This is a long video of my car on the ring going through some warmup paces with the locker installed 9 inch. Car is slightly modified so as not to be a hindrance out there. Driver does need more modding though.

I agree with everyone who posted above. I wouldn't go with a locker for your combination, and the Wavetrac would be what I'd recommend for dumping the clutch at 5100 rpm. I sell the 31 spline Wavetrac at the link here. http://shop.brutespeed.com/Moser-5W9...ser-5W9F31.htm Bob

what kind of power can a wavetrac handle? i was hoping not to pay out $1000 for a new diff but if you wanna play u gotta pay. the reason i am wondering is since i want to still be able to build my engine and not have to go and redo the rear again especially if i am spending that much money on a diff.

Wavetrac is counting on it being able to handle 1000 rwhp. They totally back it up, if anyone has a problem with one, they're immediately on it. Bob
