Default Moser 9" w/ Trac-Loc: First Driving Impressions

I broke my 10 bolt at the track July. Snapped the pinion right off and sheared some teeth off the ring gear. It was only on the second pass and while shifting into 2nd (it can happen to anyone at anytime!) Figured I'd rather fix it the right way instead of risk breaking another rear and being down for another 4 months.

I called Bob@Brutespeed and ordered a Moser 9" with no abs and no tcs, Trac-Loc rear, and an aluminum PST driveshaft. He answered any questions I had and the shipping was very fast.

Driving
I've had the rear in the car for 1 week now and put about 300 miles on it. At first I thought the rear was a bit louder than stock, but after putting some miles on it I really can't remember the stock rear being any quieter. And by that, I mean that this rear is very quiet. I had 4.10 in the stock rear and this Moser has 3.89. Acceleration wise I can't tell the difference.

There are no weird clunks, pops, or noises on acceleration or deceleration. I live in Chicago so I have driven light to light and also about 100 miles on the highway. Thus far, it has performed like stock.

I haven't done any full out launches because I wanted to wait about 500 miles before doing so. But the few times I have accelerated hard the rear has done it job well.

Conclusion
Overall, I am happy with the purchase. I wanted a rear that was 100% streetable and able to get groceries and makes trips to the mall, but be able to lay the smack down at the track when necessary. I honestly cannot tell there is a tank of a rear underneath the car while putting through my parking garage or cruising up Lakeshore Dr.

In the next couple weeks I will be putting on a set of FM10s with some MT street radials, so when I do that I will update the thread with my impressions of a full out launch.

If you have any questions about why I chose this over an S60 or why Trac-Loc feel free to ask, I did a lot of research on here and on various site sponsors. So far, I would recommend this Moser to anyone.

Most aftermarket rears price betwen 1400-2500$ and that does not includ a driveshaft or tune for different gearing.

IT IS AN INVESTMENT.

I've been researching all the rears available on these cars. Thanks for giving us some of your thoughts so far. It really helps with real world experiences.

I chose the Trac-Loc for a couple reasons. First, Since my car is a 3 channel car, if I ordered the ABS it only came in Tru-Trac. I read countless threads on here and on other forums about their decline in quality over the last couple years. I had to make an executive decision to give up ABS to forego the Tru-trac. I'm only at bolt on power now but plan to upgrade power over the next couple years and like someone else said in the thread it really is an investment. I wanted the most headache free long-term option for my needs. Plus, the car has like 110k miles so it will be slowly turned into a weekend racecar so I didn't really need the abs option.

The rear itself was $2,450 which included shipping. I ordered swaybar brackets for $50 and I also purchased a PST aluminum driveshaft bc I figured that would be the next thing to break. The ds was $480, but considering a tow home from the track is ~$200 + the carnage it would cause + ds replacement would be about the same cost in the end, so another investment. All said and done it was around $2,900.

Give Bob@Brutespeed a call and chat him up. He was very helpful over the phone and gave me some real objective opinions and options. I ordered the rear on the afternoon of the 8th and it arrived on the 14th. So 1 week including a weekend was very fast.

I'm all about preparing the drivetrain for power instead of playing the catch up game.

Also, I believe he knocked another $50 off for being an LS1tech member. I believe there is a box to check on the online order form.

I am currently h/c car with 430whp. I plan on getting to around 600-700 in the future. Car is 100% street car. Is the truetrac or trac lock better for my needs? Also just a weekend driver. What do you guys think?

Truetrac's have been breaking for people since their parent company was sold back in 05 or 06. I'd go Trac loc out of your two choices but you're pushing this diff at 600 hp. Your best bet would be to go with the Wavetrac, which will handle your future horsepower goals.

The Wavetrac comes in 35 spline and is available for both the 3 and 4 channel. Thanks. Bob

Been driving my 9" for about 2 months now with a stock Ford Trac-Loc that I pulled from an unknown mileage and year center section and it is like stock posi on the street. Haven't been to the track yet but its a perfect street differential.
