Mine just went. Broke loose a little on wet pavement, hooked lightly on dry and BAM! loud grinding and banging noises. My fast cars have always been late 60' early 70's muscle of which tons of burn outs later the rears were still in good shape. Unfortuantly I treated my T/A the same way, it was only a matter of time.
I'm not so sure it was the crazy burnouts as much as the tire chirping 1st to 2nd shifts I did. On the next rear I will DEFINATLY not treat it as badly.

My 10 bolt has made a few passes i have stock 3.42s just ordered 3.73 and some bf DRs I have a 9 in. in my 2nd gen Z will it fit under my 4th gen? If it will would you run 10 bolt till it breaks or go ahead and make the change?

Ok, we all kno the pinion seals leak. Sooner or later the fluid level will be low, too low and dangerous. If it gets too low and too much heat builds up...BOOM! I change my fluid EVERY 6K miles; i looked in the owner manual and saw that was the recomandation for the Auburn, i figured, ****, if it is good enough for that rear it is good enough for mine. The fluid on these cars doesn't "drip" it only leaks (at least on mine) when you're driving. I can tell that b/c there is oil splashed up next to my drive shaft on my floor board. So Changing it at every oil change or every other will replenish what is lost and keep it ok. Think of your engine and letting the oil burn off past the low oil light threshold, same principle...BOOM!
I have been LUCKY with my rear *knock on wood*. I also DON'T do 5K clutch dumps, or use DR's.

i should have payed more attention 3 years ago when i got my car. The first thing i did was put 373's in my 10 bolt...its still ticking but ive had a vibration ever since they went in. I replaced everything from the converter back to the brake pads. I think its a shaft or the housing that was bent. It was the biggest waste of money to put money into it especially with the vibration frustration....dont touch your 10 bolts! save save save for something worthy which has been said for the last 5 1/2 pages lol

I have a 2002 WS6 that is pushing around 475 rwhp. The other day I grabbed 2nd and twisted my drive shaft. now I have to take the car apart anyway so I'm going to rebuild my T56 and install a new drive shaft and spec three clutch. I'm thinking of switching to a 12 bolt rear end with 3:73's or 4:10's. The problem is that I don't know which gearing to go with. Finally, I've been told that there is a Chevy truck rear end that will bolt bolt on with little or no mods and most of them are 3:73's, in 1/2 ton trucks, which would make for an easy swap. My question is what year and style of truck is it? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks

Does that mean, in your oppinion, that I will have to purchase a new aftermarket rear end rather than finding a wrecked truck in a salvage yard and robbing the rear end out of it?
