Default Energy Suspension Tq Arm Bushing & Tranny Mount?

What are the pro's and con's to these items? I hear they are great for the money but I remember someone telling me that one or both of them made the car more bumpy and gave it more vibration..?? Is the tq ar mount really that good for wheel hop? A really experienced drag racer I know said that for a stock or mildly modified LS1 he would spend the $20 on the Tq arm mount and skip the LCA's all together.

I am using both of those.

The trans mount gives quite a bit of vibration, there's no missing it.

I didn't see any increase in vibration from the torque arm mount.

The shifting & hook-up is better with both.

Can you desribe the vibration the tranny mount makes? Does it vibrate all the time or only when accelerating and/or decelerating, is it tolerable, worth it.. etc? What do they help? You mentioned they helped shifting but in what way? How hard is it to install- time? If it isn't too much of a project, for 20 bucks I'll give it a shot. If I don't like it I'll just take it out. Thanks.

Id go for it. I have a Polyurethane Tranny mount from Thunder and there's only really a difference if your clutch chatters. but other than that, no more vibration from my car...

I did the install of the tranny mount in about 10 mins on ramps in a friends driveway. Use the spare tire jack as a tranny jack, and put the ramps under the back tires. Easy as hell to do. Dont forget to unclip the little wire harness on the passenger side area of the tranny crossmember. The TA bushing is a bit more difficult to do.

To avoid bad vibrations from the trans mount you must leave off the preload plate and shave down those two "humps" on the poly trans mount until they are even with the rest of the mount. Install the trans mount w/o the preload plate. If you install the mount as is with the preload plate it will cause the back of the trans to sit too high and hit/vibrate against the trans tunnel.

Preload plate? What piece is that? I got a prothane tranny mount and im not sure exactly what that is. I do know the prothane mount is about 1/8" shorter than the stock 01 mount. Mine vibrated really bad so I took it off. I did grind the bumps off of it though.

The preload plate comes with the energy suspension mount, it's about 1/4" thick, as Dustin said the plate pushes the tranny up too far and the tranny can hit the underside of the car, mine did and the noise transfer was unfreaking believeable!!!!! I did exactly what Dustin described and 98% of the noise went away.

I have both. First time little woman rode with tranny mount, she thought car was falling apart. Asked what I had done NOW? She has gotten used to it now and didn't notice a thing when I put in TQ arm mount. I have full poly mounts on sway bars and LCAs, panhard and BMR box SFCs. Road noise is well worth the increased traction and handling. Hooks hard and straight.

I have both. I used the preload plate and didn't modify it at all. Basically installed it as it came. There is absolutely no vibration unless I'm at WOT. And with my exhaust all loud at WOT, it doesn't add much. I don't see why you guys are complaining. It's like buying an aftermarket exhaust and complaining that it's louder then stock.

I have: poly/rod LCAs, poly bushings/endlinks on sway bars, poly trans mount, and poly TA bushing. It has ZERO noises/squeeks. The crap I heard about the above and the horrible noises I'll have. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" /> The trans mount ONLY vibrates and VERY slightly at most when I'm WOT. Some other friends also have both with same results.

Don't let anyone scare you. GET IT. If you don't like it, you can always remove it.

I too have the torq arm mount and its fine, no vib at all. I had the Trans mount too, installed with the pre-load plate and I didn't notice any vib either, but I changed it out for the 1LE unit just to make sure the PCM wasn't getting any false knock. The 1LE is just as good as the poly unit!

This is driving me crazy!!! Would someone PLEASE take a picture of these "humps" everyone is talking about on the poly tranny mount. Mine did not come with a "preload plate" or have any humps on it. It is completely flat on the crossmember side. I have yet to have anyone show me what the humps are on the poly tranny mount. I also have a 1LE mount from SLP that does have humps on it, but the poly mount does not. Can anyone show this to me to keep me from going insane???

Thanks,
Kevin

Slayer,
They may have changed the design or you may have a different brand. I have the Energy Suspension and I might add that I bought about 3 years ago. Mine had two small humps or ridges on the TRANNY side of the mount and there is also a preload plate that is merely a flat piece of metal the same shape as the trans side of the mount that merely installs and wedges in between the mount and the trans. This plate pushes against those humps and cause preload or static tension within the mount. Giving the mount, I suppose, greater strength. If yours doesn't have all that then simply measure the dimensions of your poly mount against your stock mount and if it is no taller than the stock one you should be fine.
Come on people...common sense here please..hehehee

IMO, they both suck. Bad vibration and they wont do **** for your 60 fts. Everyone has an opinion and that is mine!

Dustin,

The mount I have works fine, but I am just wondering why people keep talking about the humps on these mounts, when I haven't even seen a picture on anyone's site that looks like the mount has humps.

Just curious,
Kevin
