Loss of traction and bad wheel hop... need help!
Hey Everyone
I am having some problems with traction and need some advice from the experts. I currently drive a 2001 m6 z28 as my toy for the roads. It has the following mods that would make the difference: SLP Loud Mouth, lid + filter, sub-frame connectors, free ram air, GMS mass air flow sensor, 17x9.5 TTII, 555r Nitto Drags(4500 miles), no rear seats, star spec III clutch. I am planning to put a GWP stage II blower on the car as soon as I fix this problem. I am experiencing major wheel hop and loss of traction right up to 50 miles per hour. When I launch from a stop I just spin, and have to let off to get traction. I consider this just a problem of having an M6 on street tires. However, when I just accelerate I spin, even at 50 miles per hour I can make the car go side ways. This often occurs when it gets cold out. Is my loss of traction due to the temp being cold, or is it time for new Nitto's? Does anyone else have this problem? This is just killing me, I raced a lightning out of the hole and it pulled on me to 50mph, due to loss of traction. I know that this is common for an m6, but there has to be a solution. What suspension components would you suggest that I purchase?
Sincerely

25 to 20 ? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />
Try 15 to 18 ! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
She'll feel a bit loose but after a slight burn she should grip and rip ! <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

how are you launching from a stop are you reving it up and dumping it.Best way is to just leave like you were from a stop light and then floor it. You should only break loose when you shift to 2nd but if you granny it you should be ok.

Ok, so that explains it, Nitto's suck in cold weather. Is this due to the tires tread being soft? If so I would imagine not even E.T. Streets would make a difference. Thanks for eveyone's help, do you know of a tire that does hold?
Krazy98TA: I generally leave the line in two ways depending on the situation. When it is cold out I generally come off the line as though I am driving normally and lay into it. Problem is even when I dont lay into it too hard it still spins. Thus, I loose off the line. If I don't lay into it, then I loose b/c I am not going fast enough. Thus, leaving the line that way is almost always a top end race. When I just dump it off the line, the tires spin but I let off. When I let off I punch it again and they seem to hold. I generally have better results with this way of launching (provided I say around 3000 rpm). Thus, I am not really sure what to do to fix my problems for the winter. Would a 17x11 rim on the back help at all?

In cold weather, Nittos drive like you had rocks mounted your wheels, kinda like the Flintstones. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
On the street, around 24 lbs is as low as I go in order to maintain decent cornering with 16" 245s. I generally use 26 - 28lbs and find that gives a decent compromise.
LCAs and good torque arm can help control wheel hop. I hope you are planning on a 12 bolt rear. Yours isn't going to last long with a blower. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Ok so basically I am screwed in the cold weather with the Nitto's. Cool, I can deal with that.
I have a Strange 12 Bolt on order with all the goodies <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> ...so my 10 bolt wont be in there much longer.
I will place an order tonight for some lca's and a new torque arm. Is there a particular model that is best? Are there any fitment problems with the 12 Bolt?
Sincerely
