We have debated the uber Vette's name...it matters very little, for we will be driving camaro's for the most part. Thusly, the question should be what shall we call the top of the line camaro?
I realize that some will say we should name it ZL1...however, that is a limited edition car and thusly they may be the bodies which are inhabited by the new LS9 in a camaro form.
The question is this...
Should the camaro be more of a poser car or a race car.
Today the SS brand has been dragged through the mud and defecated upon.
The Z/28 label has a history as a road racer...which the engine, brakes, and suspension of the top of the line camaro will subscribe too. The LS7 is a goodly deal like the old 302 that inhabited the Z/28 of old...high revving and very much a derivitive of an actually used racing engine.
Therefore, should the new top of the line camaro inhabit a true heritage name or a name being used as a punchline?

i would be very suprised if it was anything other than an SS. GM has dedicated this badge to all its "performance" cars, and i use the term loosely. but, i think they will stick to this

It would be nice if the Z/28 was a true performance model (any choice of engine, rear end ect... cloth interior, low cost) and the SS was more of a street car, with nicer interior and options.

How about the Camaro "Type R" or "Type S", ooo, or better yet "Type SS". They'd sell the heck outta those things with those types of badges, I hear they add at least 30hp.....
KIDDING, cool it. I like SS for the top dog, then Z28 for the base V8.

I'd like to see the Z28 be the Z06 of Camaros. A real halo car, limited edition type.
SS would be the performance model, but the Z would top it with a lightweight, limited options (no vert, manual only) highest performance model.
They both have racing heritage. To me SS= drag racing, Z28 = road racing

You redeemed yourself though.
On topic...does it matter? ZL1 goes with the 427" motor, but, if this Camaro will corner carve like mad, I say it should be dubbed the Z/28. Besides, COPO codes and RPO codes a cooler than symbolism badges like the SS and it's been put on EVERYTHING under the sun lately. Few...redeemed myself from deserving a
