Question cutting the shifter

has anyone cut down their stock shifter? How about a B&M ripper? I want to shorten it 2 to 3 inches.

My friend did it in his LT1 and cut it to short. First time he banged 2nd hard he cracked his console. I would just try to find a short stick that is already at the length you want. There should be some out there. If you do decide to cut it, make sure you don't cut it to short.

I have a B&M shifter and figured it would be cheeper(free) to cut down the shifter then buying a short stick. Any reasons why I shouldn't?

I think I got my short stick for 20 bucks man. You can cut it if you are that strapped for cash, but I think your best bet is just to buy one.

Just buy a short shifter and a shorter stick and do it right. Stop being stupid.

Wasn't being stupid, was asking a question. Last I knew, Lou's short stick was only available for pro 5.0 and Hurst, not B&M. So instead of buying a new shifter and a shorter stick, I was inquiring to the possibility of cutting down the one I have. So stop being a dick.

Well, I'm coming to you with this opinion with experience, as in I've done it before. It's not worth it, get a shifter that works. You'll end up breaking your console. Ask me how I know.. again. And I'm a dick with good reason, I see something I did that was stupid, that didn't work out that someone else is about to do, I'm going to call it like I see it.

However, if you want to disregard all of this and cut your stock shifter stick down anyway... be my guest.

just as a thought it might make your cupholder useless. im 6'1" and can shift with a large drink no problem, but if it were an inch or 2 shorter i couldnt keep one there.

I cut mine two inches it costed me like 10 bucks. It is a B&M shifter. Love it. Then the tranny mount broke, so I went with a prothane mount and it dropped it another 1/2 inch of so. It is a short short stick.

I cut like 2 inches off my pro 5.0 shifter i had the ws6store shifter with didnt like it just cut 2 inches off and it sits perfect and does not hit the console, and i do not have the blocker bolts on. It is personal preference do what you like.

My stocker is cut and welded. Works good. Just measure, get the right angle, etc..

Don't listen to these guys about buying another shifter. In my opinion, the Ripper has a way better feel to it. Cut the stick on that B&M and call it a day.

I built my own shifter and it is perfect for me. I built it to sit at a 7 degree angle towards me. My car came with the ss hurst shifter and this is so much nicer to shift. Stainless steel

What brand die did you use? Did you need something special because the B&M is stainless steel? Thanks

I'm a little worried about threading stainless. What did you use?
