I am building a 5.3l motor for a silverado (OBS truck) 88-98. The motor is an 03 5.3 out of a tahoe. has ls2 intake, oil pan. truck is going to be for show and will be driven but not daily. I am looking for a cam that sounds really mean at idle but drives good on the interstate or around town. Nothing to crazy but I want it to be known that it is not stock. Can you guys point me in the right direction?

take a look at texas-speed.com. They are a sponsor. I would go w/ something like the 224/224 (tr224). I have a similar cam in my car and it is my daily driver. Made 360/360 on a mustang dyno.

i have a comp cam 212/218 @50 558/563 115lsa, this cam would work very well with a good thump in a 5.3. i currently bought it for my ls1 but i went bigger. as that cam was not that big in a ls1. in a 5.3 it would be big. and the 115lsa would allow you to go fi if the need arised. let me know! 275.00$ i have 350 in it

I wouldn't go any lower than 220 if you want a good choppy idle, and also keep the LSA around 110-112. When you do the cam you should atleast do springs. You could also look at doing pushrods, timing chain and oilpump.

I am changing the oil pump and chain at the same time. were you referring to installing a new stock item or an upgraded oil pump and chain? Sorry for my ignorance. I don't know a whole lot about internals of an engine. But I am learning as I go....
