Default Question about gearing.

alright guys i have a question, i have a book on camaro history and i read about the gearing for the 98-02 z28s. it says that they came with 3.21 gearing standard and if you had the auto, you could get optional 3.42 gearing, but ive read on here that people have 2.73 gearing, which the book said was on the 93-97 z28s. whats the truth? one more thing, i know the ls1 isnt a 350, but is it a 347 or 346 cu inch motor?

1) you can not, in any year of the 4th gen get 3.42's in an auto.
2) its 346 cubic inches.

for gearing 98-02 autos
z/28 and trans-am the standard gearing was 2.73 (but 3.23's were optional)
ss and ws6 all came with 3.23's

ALL 98-02 manual f-bodies came with 3.42's.

there were no 3.21 gears.

sounds like your book has some pretty inaccurate information - what book is it?
3.42 rear was an option, just not for auto z28's.
3.42 rear was available for auto cars if they were v6 models with the Y87 package

"Camaro Z28 and Performance Specials" by Jason Scott and David Newhardt. It talks about every model year camaro from 67-02. for the 93 z28 it states that the RPO G92's had the 3.23:1 performance rear-axle ratio and non-G92 cars had the 2.73:1 ring and pinion set with a wide ratio T56 tranny. I cant find what gearing the ls1 had, but i swear its in here.
