SS = Fast, z28 = slow .... opinions
ls1tech,
I own a 2002 camaro SS A4 3.23 gears
My bro owns a 2001 camaro z28 A4 3.23 gears ... hardtop to boot
Ive added a HSW nitrous kit, headers, borla catback, lid, and an HP tune
His is bone stock except a chokemaster muffler
__________________________________________________ _________
So heres the setup:
Ive been driving his around lately and it feels SSSSSSSSLLLLLOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW
I mean, i know ive been driving a modded ls1 around, but come on, my bros feels like granny smith apples slow
Maybe I just dont remember how driving a stock ls1 fbody feels? Or his is a dog? Possibly abused (although it does not at all look or drive like it has been)?
Tune perhaps? Do some cars come stock with better tunes?
I just feel like when MINE was stock, it was still apples to oranges... mine stock ran a 13.4 ... his feels like a high 13 second car....
My SS also feels more planted, and sturdy by comparison to the Z (and his has better tires, i have bald sumitomos)...
dont SS's have "thicker" suspension components (or is it just sway bars?) I know ive got bigger wheels than him...
I KNOW an ls1 is an ls1 is an ls1 is an ls1 is an ls1
But what gives? I feel a difference between the SS and the Z
ALL COMMENTS WELCOME
BTW im taking both our cars to the dyno on saturday... tuning his car as a first mod... curious to see how a stock car responds to tuning...

The others are right man. It's in your head.
I have a 403 stroker in my camaro and my brother has a Full bolt on, stalled, ms4/prc ls6 headed, rebuilt stock cubed bottom end- Trans Am, and his is by no means slow, but it feels that way when I drive his.
Just deal with the fact that after you reach a certain point with your car, you'll never be content with anything less.

The title of this thread makes me want to slap somebody... His car is/could be slower for many reasons, Z28 vs SS is NOT one of them. A full exhaust and tune will make a decent difference in power and more importantly it will sound and feel much faster.

my bfgoodrich drags radials have no tread watsoever in the middle and i launch the hell after a good warmup lol but i doubt it with street tires.
but then all i got is a slow z28 someone have SS badges so i can be fast!!!!

The OP does have a point. A friend of mine has an '02 Z28. After he became frustrated with the lack of power, he replaced the Z28 badges with SS badges. That modification alone netted him 50 horsepower. Then he ditched the SS badges in favor of VTEC stickers.....and gained an additional 50.
