id hunt around and find an ls7 at a wrecking yard. or get some 317 heads and do a front mount turbo. KYT can hook you up with a sweet kit for around 3700 so u still have $ left over to get injectors, tune, tires, etc.

lol. ive seen ONE on craigs for 6k with computer/harness. it might be one of those once-n-a-decade kinda finds for u guys but i live in oregon, lol, and theres not a real big demand for lsx parts, so i find good deals all the time...but heres how i look at it... if u already have 5k to spend, it wouldnt take much to save up a little more moo la and find one in your area.

If it were me I would buy a junkyard LQ4/LQ9 and do a 408 build. Can be done for under 5k pretty easily.

5000 total or just 5000 for the engine. stall, headers and cat back could be easy 2500 alone.

I'm ... setting up for a 408 when the LS1 lets go.

243 heads, TEA Stage 2 $1800 total... which is a hell of a deal
TSP Cam, Oil Pump, time set, lifters, gasket's & ARP bolts $1158
Circle D Pro-I 2C converter $725
Kooks Headers 1-7/8 and Stock Style Y... can't say

Just the Above is $5k... and there's alot of stuff missing from that like lifters, tranny cooler, ect.

So given the position to do it with out a motor I'd get a low mile LQ9 and go from there or a high mile LQ4/9 and go all out!

If your stock bottom end is still in good shape and you're looking to upgrade, I'd go with heads + cam + gears + stall + tires + LT's + exhaust + tune.

$1,500 heads + $700 cam kit + $300 gears + $400 stall + $500 tires + $500 LT's + $500 exhaust + $500 tune = $4,900. Very rough estimate and it could go a good bit either way but you get the point -- it can be done if you're able to do most of the wrenching.
