Default everything in car is dead

Ok well I went to start my car tonight and I had just driven a couple miles and I turned the key on and it got to the on position and it souned like a electrical switch shut off, just wondering if anybody knows what might have happened if there's a main fuse somewhere because I know there's some older cars that do, if anybody could help me I would extremely appreciate it, I'm gonna take the battery and have it tested in the morning, thanks in advance. I wanted to add just to make clear nothing turns on when I turn the key on interior lights not working, its acting just like if I took the battery completely out of the car

Check the fuses on the side of your dash by the drivers door. One of them(I forgot which one) everyone says to check first. Just the other day I went to start my car and it did the same thing you are describing. I checked all the fuses and nothing was blown. Went to unhook the battery and everything came on. I guess I need to clean my battery connections. Might want to take a look at that.

Thanks blkbird, I will definently try that I was kind of in a hurry to get somewhere when it happened so I just left it at the girlfriends parents house and I didn't have a set of needlenose pliers to check the fuses but will be doing that this morning, anybody else had this problem?

First thing's first-check your battery connections. A loose or bad ground will cause your problem...

Well the positive battery cable was like a half turn from being completely tight and when I tightened it down the interior lights came on and it started right up, I'm glad it wasn't something costly

Some of the easiest fixes at first can be the most stressful cause you have no idea what the problem is. You feel completely lost and then you turn your battery connection one turn and it everything works. Can't help but laugh at it.

yea the one that suck are when there down by the starter or something. i knew a guy that to start his car he had to pop the hood and pull up on his pos cable to make good connection, then go turn the key. ive told him forever to go tight the starter power wire, wont listen still doing same crap. he zip tied it one time after he pulled it up, but it didnt last long.
