Default Do you let your motor warm up?

Every time i get into my car i let it warm up for atleast 2 min so that the RPMs drop and so the motor gets a little heat in it. Is this necessary?

I guess im just paranoid because of the "tick" and i think somethings going to get wrecked.

How many of you just get in and drive away or do you let it warm up too?

I let it warm up for about 20 seconds or until I get situated before I start driving. This is at 6:45 in the morning too so it's relatively cold out right now. I just keep my RPMs around 1500 when shifting but I only drive 5 minutes to work anyway.

I always let all of my vehicles warm up. If you don't, you're wrong and doing damage. At the least you should wait till the RPMs drop for a while, and at the best until the temp needles move.

Well if you wait that long, you could end up with hot spots in the motor. That's also not a good thing. I see no problem with letting the engine run for 20-30 seconds and then start driving. I've let the fluids start moving around. Plus, the car warms up quicker while driving. I've let it sit for almost 10 minutes before at around 30*F and the air coming out of the vents wasn't even warm.

I usually wait about 20-30 seconds, then take off, trying to keep the rpm's low until the temp comes up.

I let it run for about 30 seconds then I take off. No WOT until everything is properly warmed up (many miles later).

You've also got to remember letting it sit there and idle, even for a few mins, you will have to wait a good 5 mins of driving regardless of if you warm it up, or start and go. Your tranny and rear will still be cold until the wheels start moving, even if your at ~200* coolant temp. Thats why a 20-30 sec warmup is plenty then get the rest of the drivetrain moving.

I usually get in, start the car and immediately go WOT with shifting at 6200 RPM's. It's incredible how fast the engine warms up after doing this a few times.

I always warm the car for about 3-5 minutes and then shift at 2500 until the car warms up. I never just hop in and take off. I feel alot better letting the car warm up but thats just me.

i never let it above about 1800 if im running real late and only have time to let it warm up about 20 seconds...but usually i put in a cd and listen to a song or on the radio and then start driving once that song is over, still not letting it above 2000 or so rpms til that temp gauge is close to 210...search is your friend

Werd!

I start my car, let it find idle. Then take off. Nothing crazy, shift around 2K to 25K......
