Does 17mpg sound right?
I just want to run this across you all.
basically ive kept track of my mileage for a couple months and I keep getting about 17 mpg
basically all of my driving is stop and go and never get above 60 because im never on a highway, and I drive it pretty careful (haven't taken it about 3krpm in a while)
what do you think, does 17mpg seem right?

sounds about right, how are you figuring it out? i will fill my tank, reset the odometer. Then drive till i want to fill up, go fill up and take the amount of gallons and divide it into what i get from the trip. then reset it again.

same here around 16-17 in town and 23-25 on highway.
whats the average miles you get a tank mines 260-280 with a 50/50mix city and highway. and the occasional exhibition of speed.
the most i have gorren with the mods in my sig was 315 but that was driving 5 miles under everywhere.

I driven close to 300 miles straight at 75mph at night before in my '99 A4 and never got above 24 mpg.
My 2001 Corvette A4 got 28 mpg though and my Z06 got 30 mpg, all in pretty similiar conditions at night. The c5's were stock though and the F-body had LT exhaust intake programming and a thermo.
It never got below 17 though even in city and never going over 55mph. I think you calculations are right on, especially since your LT1 probably weighs about 150 more than my LS1 (100lb from engine and 50 from other crap I swapped for light weight).
Well actually there was this time I forgot to hook up my IAT sensor when I put a new intake on...
Yeah I got a little less that 10mpg when I did that...
Don't do that one. It also drove like really bad **** and sounded like crap.

After doing the throttlebody bypass and cleaned my intake and throttlebody itself i remeber getting almost 330-340 mi to a tank in my 96 LT1 A4 camaro. And that was with a 130,000 on the clock and mostly highway averaging between 90-100 every morning on my way home from work... i normally would get 310-320 though. I figured it would usually average 20-22mpg

As for the 94 right now I get about 14-16mpg when it hits on all 8.
it is all in how you drive though, coasting as much as possible to stop lights and stop signs, helps quite a bit too.
Think of it this way, everytime you hit your brakes, thats gas spent going nowhere. so tailgating or following anyone for that matter, you tent to use your brakes a lot more which in turn increases drag therefore having to use more fuel. Letting your car coast down hills and letting the car slow down some climbing hills by maintaining the same position on the gas up the hills means using less gas too.

If you program your car transmission to snap into 4th at a lower mph you might save more cash if you drive in 55mph semi-city/semi-highway (like 183 in Austin).
I programmed mine to raise gears as quickly as possible, it barely ever went above 2.5k with 3.23 gears. Almost never over 3k.

I usually get 17-18mpg with about 70/30 split city/highway. I've noticed a big fuel consumption difference between 55mph and 75mph. Two fillups ago I got 13mpg with no highway. All that city driving is little to moderate stop-and-go too.
The gas gauge is odd too. I can often get 140 - 148 miles to the half way mark and then about 50 - 60 miles from the half way mark to "E". I've calculated that when the needle is on "E", there are about 2.5 to 3 gallons still in the tank which is the normal/common safety amount/feature in most cars.
