fuel filter I know it's recommended to change the fuel filter every 30,000 miles, but I have always changed mine at 10,000. The problem is that when I do change it I look at the fuel in the old filter and its filthy! Almost black it's so bad. When do you guys change yours? Im thinking I should change it every 5-7,000 miles instead of 10. Thoughts?????
Also, I was wondering if this is harmful to the engine. Should I seafoam it or something???

NOT BASHING...but from mine and a few friends opinions that also travel all through the U.S. ...your gas does not come anywhere near Canadian Gasoline in regards to Octane and our cleanliness. I can drive on 87 octane all over Canada, [don't though,but have] , and even when I get your 91 and above, my car does not respond well, and it is knocking and loud. In ARIZONA, CALI, NEVADA, last July, I was actually concerned a few times with the problem...went and bought additive..still, 3 points additive means...03 Octane bump--NOT..3 Points.

I also cut my filters open at 25,000miles and 38,000 miles and it was crystal clear everytime, and the paper element wasn't that dark and had no particles in it.

Ok I'll play your game.
So you drove through the US and used our dirty gas yet your filters were still clean when you cut them open? What is your Canadian gas so good it cleans the garbage from the American fuel out of your filters? 
your gas does not come anywhere near Canadian Gasoline in regards to Octane and our cleanliness. I can drive on 87 octane all over Canada, [don't though,but have] , and even when I get your 91 and above, my car does not respond well, and it is knocking and loud. strange...i only bought gas up in canada, once... well i mean i'm not up there much esp now that the US dollar sux but thats another story.
my only exp i filled up my 1988 buick skylark in canada, and that, my little 4 cyl 500 dolla beater was missing on the canadian gas. ran like **** until i filled up again in back in my buffalo area.
maybe its just the pump i went to... but i would not trust filling my formula with it becuz of that exp. but i think it just comes down to each place.
fwiw i try to only fill up at sunoco... but if that not around i go to a mobile.

Changed out my stocker at 55K when i got it. It was still clean. Have only seen dirty filters on old beaters that NEVER change the filter til it is clogged.
Same thing w/ my Z, changed it out at 60K and it was relatively clean.

I'd say it was time to drain the tank for starters. Maybe there is sludgy sedement built up in there that your filter is picking up. Then try different gas.
Yah think someone could have put **** in your tank and you never found out because it never harmed your performance/engine?

I'm in Houston also and I'm an "old school" f-body owner in that I've had 6 now. I was told way back when - 1997 - that Mobil oil and gas performed the best in our cars and I stuck with it all up until recently when I tried Valero as there wasn't a Mobil around.
The valero gas is first of all cheaper and I didn't notice any performance differece. Though when I used Chevron, Shell, or Conoco, I could feel a considerable loss in power and driveability.
From my experience, Shell gas makes my car run the shittiest, then Chevron. Oh and of course I'm talking about 93 octane..
Exxon and Mobil are the same company and their purity standards are exactly the same as it is the same gas. Shell and Valero are totally different. My friend works in the rock physics dept at Shell oil and swears up and down they have the most stringent purity standards among all other fuels.
Don't know anything about Valero other than it seems to work just fine for my ride
