Default How long did it take you to get your car where it is?

Just looking at the direction I want to take with my car, I really like my car, just feels like it's taking forever for me to complete. I'm constantly running out of money, saving to get some Z06 rims. I don't have the skills or money for an LSx/LT1 swap. I was going to drive down to the states and pick up a clean low mileage LT1 car, but whereas I don't know if I'm going to school or not... and I'd have to sell my car afterwards, too big of a hassle

I'm working on show for now, I'll get my rims, do a few paint touchups, SS spoiler and I should be on my way for appearance.

And for performance I was going to upgrade to long tubes, do a 75 shot and call it a day (and maybe heads/cam) have to do more looking into that... All in all, as of May next year it'll be two years with the car. Car already had the stripes when I bought it.

Quite the list, did you do the majority of the mods at the same time or intervals?

I bought the car in 04 and didn't start modding it until late 06 with the majority of the modding done in 07. I think i'd be done by now if I started when I had first bought the car but oh well. I don't see this car being done until 09, mostly just because of $$$. Modding cars is very much an addiction not just a hobby

It took me 7 days to get my SS the way it is today!! Ok so what I bought it last week

I bought a 1990 Firebird in Oct. 2006. Had a 3.1L V6 w/ 240k miles on it. I parked it over the winter and started gathering parts. Picked up a 3.8L LC2 engine(Grand National setup) and decided to go the Turbo 6 route. Had the engine machined in late March, Assembled by April, gathered up most parts by May and started the swap in May too. Fired up the project in Mid July. Although, it will never be complete(what is?) Its in a good running state and has made over 20 passes down the 1/4 mile. It has a best run of 12.20@112.14mph and is currently pushing 20psi of boost. Next spring I'm looking at a few new parts to upgrade some 20 year old stuff. A new race chip, some 116 octane, and a new fuel pump and boost controller and I'll be hoping for 11's and 25+psi!!!

Well mine is still basically stock but my thrid gen took about 4 years. Part of the modding game is the running out money, arguing with the wife over cost of parts and time spent in the garage, constantly swapping parts, things not fitting right, things breaking and countless hours spent on LS1tech asking questions and learning.

I've had my car for almost three years. It is nowhere close to where i want it to be. I don't think that I will never finish. Especially if I keep wandering around this website and looking at all these other bad-*** cars!!

It's taken 8 years and endless explanation to the wife to get the car where it is now, and it's not even remotely close to being how I'd like it. I'd love to achieve that before gasoline is no longer available. We'll see.

I was thinking the same thing. I figure I would have mine real close to being done in about 5 years. Ive got about 2 years tied up in my current car. Who knows on the other cars. I have a stack of receipts and by the time I buy some suspension stuff from UMI I know im pushing 18K not counting the price of the car.

It took me a year to get all the big stuff (cam, bolt-ons, gear, tuning) and little odds and ends have been finding it's way on my car ever since
