Default H/C open engine... wow that's loud

Mods are in my sig, h/c was done over the Christmas break and for the first time w/ the new parts i decided to open up the cutouts. Considering my dual cutouts right after the header collectors, it's pretty much open headers.

All i have to say is it's freaking loud! Car shakes like mad and the change in my cupholder is in a new position every 15 seconds at idle.

Anyways, i'll get a vid up soon, but i'm thinking about taking the cutouts off. It really is just too loud for normal driving. And seeing how my car sees probably 98% street, i don't see any point sacrificing my ever-shrinking ground clearance (i've already pulled the headers off the engine once when i got stuck on some nasty railroad tracks) just to be loud and obnoxious. Though it does sound just plain mean, it's hard to decide.

So i ask you, maybe i'll go w/ the consensus.

Opinions?

Sounds badass but it's your call. That loudness could get old fast - especially when it's cheap to quiet down.

Very true, but the only "practical" use i see in opening them up is at the track... which i'm never at. My ears ring after about a 10 minute drive, music is kinda hard to enjoy, and forget about phone calls.

It's tough, it sounds sick, but i'm trying to decide if it's worth it for my DD where the cutouts see about an 85% closed 15% open lifestyle.

Yeah, initially it's all awesome, but to live with on a regular basis is tough. I tried bullets on the true duals thinking if it was out the back, it'd be better.

It's not.

For sanity's sake I'd do it.

Also of note, ground clearance? I've got my driver's side cat barely 5 inches off the ground. I scrape it on speedbumps and crazy dips from time to time, but you must have some really messed up cut outs to get stuck on railroad tracks...

Well, really rough railroad tracks. And that was when my car was lowered. After that incident i put factory springs back on it. Still, i have a half coke can of clearance which i personally don't feel comfortable with.

How much ground clearance do you actually have with the cutouts? Thats crazy if its low enough to get stuck on a railroad.

Even if you have them open 2% of the time it just sounds so awesome. Keep them.

Turtles are cool.

But on a side note, I have dual cutouts on a H/C setup and I love driving it around with em open. People are like "Ahhhh WTF is that noise??!?! Oh its just a car" then they flip you off. People are not too friendly to loud cars around here. kinda sucks.

A turtle is worthless, cut out is just badass and clearance is a bitch wherever you go cut outs or not. I would keep them.

Are they electronic cutouts? Hit a switch: Open/Close.

How would i secure them better? Zip ties? Haha, just kidding... but seriously, what can i use to secure them or is it something an exhaust shop has to do?

PS, manual cutouts. And the vid in my sig isn't open cutouts. I still have to find my camera to get a vid of them open.

I like turtles and lamp

If you can close them when you get tired of them why not keep them? How low are they?
