Default LSX Differences

Hey guys! New here, not sure if this is the best place to post this, but it looked like it. I'm building a 66 Chevelle and am looking to put an LSX motor and auto trans in it and I'm not sure which motor to go with. Any I should avoid?
So, I'm looking to find out what the main differences are between the different LSX motors. Is there any place anyone can recommend looking for info? Did a basic search but couldn't really find any info. Any books I can get to read up on them? An LSX Bible?

Thanks....Corey

bang for the buck, i would go with an ls2... ls1 is the basic lsx, followed by the ls6 which was put in the z06, main difference being the heads and intake manifold. but both are 5.7L engines.. whereas the ls2 is a 6.0

there are various LSX specific books, there is even the author of one book
in another forum here, on how to rebuild lsx motors
imo a .030 LQ4 6.0 will net 370ci with ls2 243 heads and a ls6 cam and ls6 intake
even with stock exhaust manifolds, the motor will put out over 425bhp
the pistons and rings for said motor are around 375$
for use wth stock rods, and crank.
has worked great for me, its very budget friendly, and all oem parts
all gm parts that work. will make more hp with lt headers
however u can reuse the 6.0 heads with the 6.0 engine, just have them milled .030-.040 for more compression

Well, I picked up the LS rebuilding book at the book store tonight. We'll see how helpful it is. I think I'll be keeping an eye out for an LS2 based on what I've found out so far. Hopefully I can find a full pullout engine and trans with all accessories and wiring for a decent price. Might have to hit the local salvage auction and just get a whole wreck. We'll see. Thanks for the help.

Are you just wanting a motor for the car, or a performance motor? Can find used ls1s for relatively cheap in the F/S section occassionally. Some may be in need of a rebuild, others may be high mileage.

Right now looking for a complete setup(eng, accessories, wiring, etc.) that will have good power and driveability that I can possibly modify in the future. Would like to find something that I won't have to rebuild right away.

Looked in there, but it seems to be more specifics on individual engines rather than differences or comparings of all the LS motors.

Dont waste you money on a ls2, Go lq4/lq9...much stronger block and alot cheaper. still lsx based and 6.0l.

I budget-built a 402.. I got a LQ4 6.0l Block for cheap, and an Eagle 4.000" Crank for cheap too. Then I got the Rods, Pistons to go with it, a set of L92 Heads for Cheap.

Build you one of them and drop it in..

Anyone know what the weight difference is between the iron and aluminum blocks?
