To anwser a previous question, no you can't go out and buy a CB and listen/talk to the cops on their channel. But with thousands of truckers on the road at any given time, you always know whats going on. And nothing can beat a OLD Cobra 29LTD Classic!

It depends on the type of driving you do. For me the V1 wasnt the best choice. I drive 95% of the time in the city and as you know a V1 is damn annoying with all the false postives that it has. I just like people to know about all thier options. I personally got an Escort 8500 for $190 and it preforms just as good as a V1.

Actually I wouldnt say many states. Detectors and jammers are only illegal in VA and DC IIRC. Every other state they are perfectly legal to use as long as they dont violate the FCC bylaws.

Also you send in your unit to Valentine and they update it. You dont get a discount on a new one if you buy it. The update price is climbing every year though. This year its $99 I believe.

TRUST me I wanted a V1 more then any other unit. I loved the arrows but I just couldnt justify the $400 price when other units out there preform just as good as it does.

I do most of my driving in the city too, i just put it in full logic mode, and disable x-band detection then put it onto all bogies when it comes time for the highway. I don't get many falses, or maybe i'm just used to them lol.

I think the update pricing depends on what you are updating from.

correct if depends what version v1 you are upgrading from so the prices range all the way to $279.

but when you upgrade you get a new unit all new parts and a 1 yr warranty which includes free tune ups for that year.

Like I said it also depends on the officer shooting it. If he is shaking and standing up the beam is going to be about 24-48" at about 300ft. If he is sitting still and has the gun propped up on something the beam is going to be 2-4" at 300ft. HUGE difference there.

Im just saying this because some people might read what you said and think that the V1 will protect them against laser as well as it does against radar.

This is the only product that can really stop a laser enough to give your radar unit time to warn you before it reads a speed to the officer. http://www.laserveil.com/veil/buy/
you nailed it the only thing to really save you from Laser is a Laser jammer but the only bad thing is that on a ws6 you will have to do some modifications (cuts) to your front bumper which sux.

have u use the veil? if so does it really work?

I havent used the veil but there have been studies by the ladarguys and they have shown that it does work. Im still not sure that spending $100 on a "paint" is good especially when considering how hard it is to get a laser on a fbody especially a Firebird. It basically has ZERO reflective areas when the lights are down and if you dont have a front license plate you are good to go.

I've been hit with laser 1 time while I was going to work.

it was the first time i had heard the v1 go off to it then i looked to my right and I saw a bike cop pointing his gun at me but I wasnt speeding

i hate to ruin everyones radar trip, but here in NY the police use visual estimates for the ticket, plus radar and laser should they need. They are trained to be accurate to within +-5mph without use of anything pointing at your car other than eyeballs. Good luck fighting the cops out here in traffic court. Animals i tell you.

NY is a different animal for sure. I believe they are the ONLY state that has a law like this and its pretty much BS. Even my uncle, who is a cop, says that nobody can ever be trained enough to be accurate in judging a cars speed.

x2

I have a lot of LEOs for family, while you can train someone to estimate speed you can only do just that, estimate. To create a citation you figure they would have to have some sort of proof. Here in florida they can give you a speeding ticket without proof but they have to file it under "excessive speed" or something of similar wording. Regardless, still a bs ticket and a hefty charge.
