The thermostat only controls when to let the coolant start circulating from the block through the radiator...the radiator is what is responsible for the heat transfer.

Soooooo...if you have something blocking your radiator (like an FTRA, etc), or if you have a bunch of **** in it (sand, leaves, bugs, other crap), it won't transfer the heat very well. The thermostat has little to do with anything in the grand scheme of things...

I don't believe a stock radiator even in pristine condition will let you run like an older gen i engine (140-160)... it isn't a good idea anyways. I am sure our blocks were hot honed at 91c

The gauges are set to show the car is running at 210 degrees even if they aren't. 99+ got the dummy gauges, 98 cars got the semi-accurate gauges.

Curious, since these cars are bottom breathers...

Is your Griffin upright? If so, is your front grille open for airflow?

it is "semi-upright" i havent cut my radiator support yet as no turbo..yet...haha but it is still tilted maybe at a 75* angle. either way my lower air dam is still there. i just dont get it. could it be the mix of coolant? im not sure if i did a good 50/50 mix like that was required.

YOu need to check your temps with a scanner, then see whats happening before you start chasing a problem that might not be there.

The factory guage is a dummy guage and not accurate at all. It will still show the same temp (barely under 210) even after thermostat and fan adjustment.
