Default I think my SS is running like sh*t!!! Any advice?

I have a '99 6-speed SS and my mods are P&P TB, LID, FTRA, LS6 INTAKE, GMMG, LT's, & ORY. I've needed a new clutch for more than a year, but even with a new clutch I don't think it would make up the difference. I know I should probably get a tune too. So here's why I think my SS is running like ****. Yesterday I ran a couple of my friends and they were all from a roll. I ran a SRT8 300c with intake and I think exhaust and he beat me by about 1 car. I raced a '02 SS with a lid, SLP dual dual, & a tune (331rwhp) and he beat me by a 1/2 car then I raced my friends 04 Mach 1 with an X-pipe, exhaust, & intake (290rwhp 312rwtq) and I beat him by about 1/8 of a car. Before my LT's and ORY I dynoed 324.57rwhp. What do you guys think? Does this sound right? I would think I would atleast get the SS by about a car and the Mach a lil more than a car. I'm throwing 5 codes which are P0102, P0134, P0141, P0801, & P0803

Also, I can shift pretty well... I'm not the best, but definitely not the worst.

Off the top of my head I don't know what those codes are but you should get them fixed before racing. P0134 I believe is an o2 code.

Other than that, I think you answered your own questions.. It doesn't matter how much power you're making if you can't put it to the ground (bad clutch) and yes you should probably get a tune, unless you plan on more mods in the near future - if so look into getting efilive

Dude, if you have allowed your engine to inhale and exhale that much, you need a tune.
Ls6 intake and LT's are enough to completely screw your stock tune.
The clutch second.
Get those codes fixed.
Don't forget, your tune is garbage, and in return it will run like garbage.

Sounds to me like you need a good tune, a new clutch and some drs so you can race them from a dig. BTW, anything can and will happen on the street, so don't be surprised that cars that you think you might beat, end up winning.

Get the codes checked asap, then tune it, your not going to unleash it if it doesnt know how.

Go up to Kargens or Schucks Or checkers, what ever it is called in your state and they loan the OBDI and II out so you can plug it in and check what the codes mean.

yes the codes will affect your performance as well as the clutch if you not putting power down. A tune will work wonders also

Ok, I'll have to check it out. Can I just go to my local performance shop and get a tune? They should be able to pull up all the codes I'm throwing right? What kinda tune should I get, aggressive or safe etc.? Thanks for the replies guys...

If i was you I would get a tune from a repiable tuner like PCMforless or Ed Wright for a mail order tune to get things in the right direction. With the mods you have they seem to be a common mod and I am sure any tuner that has done quite a few of they cars should have a preset tune for what you have. Most likely you are running a little lean considering you have done mods that bring in more air and not anymore fuel(in the tune) and the stock tune is lean especially on a CA emissions car. There are reasons for the codes so GET THEM FIXED. Good luck

Will a tune "fix" these codes though? I mean I don't just want them deleted, I want them FIXED so my car will be running like it should.

Ok, I found out what all these codes mean and now I need to know how to "FIX" them.

P0102- Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input.
P0134- O2 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank 1 Sensor 1).
P0141- O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2).
P0801- Reverse Inhibit Control Circuit Malfuntion.
P0803- 1-4 Upshift (Skip Shift) Solenoid Control Ciruit Malfunction.

P0102, P0134, and P0141 are all related to most likely your MAF is shot or not plugged up. Which will give false reading to your O2s but I would still replace them. They are not that expensive. You didn't happen to buy an aftermarket MAF?
The other two are related to the skip shift. Get on JEGS or where ever and order the skip shift eliminator.
For you to find out what is really causing the codes to be thrown then you need to hook it up to a real scanner like at a GM dealership or a local Mechanic that knows what he is doing. That will narrow down the problem. It may only be the MAF or O2s or it may not be either one and it is just a wire.

If you don't fix the problems then YES they will just come back, tune or no tune. But after you fix the problems the next mod you need to buy is a tune ASAP. JMO

Good luck man

The last owner of my car put in a skip shift eliminator. Also, my MAF is stock. Now, would a tuner be able to fix this problem and I don't mean deleting the codes?

No the tuner will no delete the codes unless there is not a problem! But the skip shift eliminator is what is throwing the code(tune would fix that one) Now as far as the MAF I would get a hold of you buddy with the 02 SS and put his MAF off his car on yours and see if it fixes that code. Sometime on these you may not have a problem and you need to have the codes deleted to see if they come back to narrow down the search of the problem. If I remember correctly codes are always stored and it takes 500 start ups for them to just go away on there own. So i would have then deleted and see if they reappear and if they do then there is a problem. It won't hurt the car anymore then it is with them being thrown. Take it tomorrow and have them deleted and see what happens.

Ported & Polished MAF ends.. someone most likely damaged the MAF when this was done.

The tuner can delete the codes all together and make the computer not even search for those particular ones. Not hard with HPtuners, and LSx based shop can get you a nice tune that will be safe and yet perform well. I say clean your maf with some brake cleaner and replace your o2's and your clutch and it should make a world of difference.
