Default Tirespin Loud Clunking from rear

I got caught out last night in a light downpour. I shut the TC OFF. Twice when i was making a right onto a sidestreet from a stop sign i decided to give it some gas and get a little drift going on. Once i started gettin a little sideways there was a LOUD clunking noise comming out the back. The weird thing is I got wheelspin a couple times in a straightline and didnt hear the noise, it only happened when I had wheelspin as turning, then I would hear it AND feel it.

Imagine a ticking noise, but instead of a light tick its a loud thumping mettallic CLUNK CLUNK noise.

Im thinking its something in the rearend/diff. Its the stock 10 bolt on a heads cam ws6 but I dont abuse it at all and i got 3.23s or possibly even longer rear end gears in it (might be the 2.xx gears from an auto). I always race from a roll too because of the weak rear. No burnouts or anything, and the only time ive ever spun the tires were a couple times in the wet.

Also, prior to this I have never felt or heard any rear end issues. (except the general squeeks and rattles our cars are known for).

Any ideas?

It drives perfect, even under WOT. It was only those couple times when I did a small drift and got some wheelsping out the corner. I got a weird feeling it has something to do with the diff, perhaps a locking/unlocking issue??????

Hmmmmmmm............

Possibly a broken spider gear, you'll have to open it up to see.

mine does this as well but my problem is my y pipe banging the floor pan when the wheels spin. i need to get some poly mounts on it to hopefully cure the problem. i dont know what kind of exhaust you have if any but that is my issue with clunking when spinning the tires.

Think positive. Sounds like you are treating your 10 bolt respectfully.

My money's on the exhaust banging the floorboard. Going around a corner will shift the position of the exhaust a little bit - maybe enough for it to bang into something while burning out.

I had the same situation. Made an adjustment and it was fixed.

You know what, it could be the exhaust too, i got true duals extended out back, something might be banging.

That being said, the 10 bolt is used with alot of miles (around 60 or 70k miles), i dunno i guess i gotta just bring it out next time it rains and test it out again u know.

I do have 315s, but they're nitto DRs, which we all know run skinny as hell (more like a 295).

What I mean by "only happening when im turning" is that if im going in a straightline then give it gas and spin the wheels i wont hear it clunk, but if im spinning the tyres and getting the car sideways like putting the car in a little drift as im giving it gas comming out of a corner then thats when it will clunk.

get underneath the car and see if there is anyhting u can wiggle like your exhasust to recreat it. im guessing u have a stock torque arm so thats out . the only other thing i can think of is a rear end binding issue, but you woudl think it would do it just turning normal too not just spinning.
