Default Window motor woes and questions...

I'd like to start off by saying that the person or person's responsible for the design of the crap they call power windows in my car should be dragged out onto a major highway and run over many many times.

All that being said, does anyone know where I can get a good window motor for my driver's side window. This will be motor #3, the first two were done under warranty and now I've gotta pay for this one since the warranty is gone. This really sucks. It's only been about a year and a half since this one was put it. It rolls down fine, but if you don't pull up on the window on it's way up, it gets about half way and just stops, and will not go back down or up with assistance. Then if you drive for a while the window will go up a bit and usually after a little while, with some assistance, it will go up the rest of the way. It acts like the motor is getting hot and just crapping out.

Anybody got any good sources or a recommendation for a fix?

Does anyone know of a beefier motor?

Could this be a problem with the regulator and not the motor? Could someone at least explain the regulator to me because I honestly don't know what its function is.

Maybe there is a fix somewhere like the headlamp gears on the firebirds for metal replacement gears to accomodate a beefier motor.

Any info would be appreciated.

My last car before the TA was a 93 Cougar XR7 and it had just as big windows and they flew up so damn quick. It literally would take 3 seconds to go from all the way down to up. I wonder if there is anyway to transplant a ford window motor into our cars.

Anyone?

F.ord window motors are WAY better.
The ones from the 89 thunderbird are equally as powerful.

They also have a lifetime warranty; with the GM motor, you only get 90 days.

And I thought I was the only one wanting to take a shotgun to my power windows. My driver side motor went out. I replaced it with an identical factory piece. But after drilling out all of the factory rivets and pulling out all of the window linkage. I gave an extra twist to the spring allieviating alot of weight off of the motor. I used bolts to put everything back in. Now my window flys up and down like it should, a total difference. Now I just have to do the same to my passenger side door. Also there is one piece that is adjustable from the factory to give a little bit more tension to the spring. There's a little black nut that holds a 5 inch track, you can losen it up and move that track up or down to give a little tension. Doesn't make a huge difference but maybe just the amount you need.

I am having similar trouble. What I want to know is can we switch to manual windows? I would have prefer manual windows to begin with, but I was told I couldn't get manual windows on a Formula unsless I also bought the WS6 and 1LE options. Which I should have done since there were only 21 or so 1LE Formulas in 1999 , but I didn't think I could afford it.
Any help switching to manual windows??

If the motors were replaced under warranty, there should have been another seperate warranty covering the parts replaced. If a existing problem was identified under warranty, and not corrected, GM normally covers it. Did you make someone mad at your dealership?
I have heard the Siemens motors at Autozone are the best and priced well. I think approx $40.00 a piece. Good Luck

I will have to agree with you guys here. I have had four motors in the passenger side and three on the drivers side with a need for a forth. I believe apachedrill is correct about the warranty on the parts purchased/installed by the dealer. I will be finding out soon enough though. Good luck and if you find a better alternative keep us posted.
