what is the smoke actually?is it just the seafoam itself burning?or is it build up of crap in the engine thats being burnt?

More the crap than the seafoam.

I think I'll give my car the seafoam fuel treatment, not sure if I'll do the rest or not at this point - don't have a good place to smoke out right now

if it were the seafoam, I think you'd see smoke as soon as you start pouring it into the running engine. It's after the seafoam has had time to work into the carbon and deposits that you see smoke.

I read through this monstrosity and just have one question left - you put it in the oil and drive 100 miles. Do you change the oil before you do the brake booster line treatment, or after all the smoking is done?

Doesn't matter. You don't have to do the steps in order. If you insist to do it in order, I would change the oil after the brake booster step.

did the procedure today. Went very smoothly. Did the fuel filter at the same time.

It does run better, though it is still pinging some. The stumble I had from 2500-2800 rpms is all but gone.

Thanks for this. I'll be doing one of my trucks next. Tune up in a can

If you're still having pinging, I'd seafoam it again. Only this time, let the Seafoam sink in there for a good hour. Seafoam your car, eat dinner and watch a sitcom, then come back and start the car. It sounds like you may have some serious buildup, and doing the procedure again and letting it soak in for a lot longer could really benefit you.

Sweet write up! I just did the full treatment to my Z with 96k on the clock. Was funny it didn't smoke up after the start and light rev so I thought it was clean. Took a drive WOT and boom...lol...whole block was smoked. Cured all the hesitation and pinging. Thanks! I would have never known about this without the write up!

Just did my Dad's 95 lexus with 230k miles...lol, that thing was the smoke champion. The looks of the neighbors as we drove out of the neighborhood to go WOT...Classic.

QUICK QUESTION:
His check engine light is on now? Should we be worried? Or should we just go to local auto shop and get it deleted?

Try unhooking the battery for about 10min first and see if it doesnt come back. Maybe the 02's got an overly rich condition.

I let the stuff soak for 45 minutes as it is and also used the deep creep down the intake.

The car didn't smoke that much. It didn't smoke at all during idle and only let out one good belch of white smoke when I launched it after letting it run for 15 minutes afterwards.

I'll do it again in a few months. It's also hot here...the day was well into the 90s, and we've had a summer of over 30 days at 110+, and I commute in this car. It seems the hotter it is, the worse it pings.

Awesome write up. Im personaly against seafoam, because use in a 2 stroke will faul the plugs most of the time. It also fauled the plugs in my 97Z28 with 140K. Alot of black smoke after start up with the new plugs. I checked the brand new plugs after running it 100 miles and they were completely black. Probly just way over due. I prefer the machine doin all the work for 100 bucks to avoid money changing the plugs in the tight engian compartment of the f-bodies.

Somehow changing plugs strikes me as costing less than $100

If your plugs get fouled from using Seafoam, they were on their way out, anyway, and it was just "the straw that broke the camel's back." Seafoam's not going to ruin a perfectly good plug. I've used a few times and never had any trouble. I just Seafoamed my car after 44,000 miles. At 45,000 miles, I did a plug and wire swap (OEM plugs and wires, they've never been changed to my knowledge), and the plugs looked practically new.

Great write up. How did I not know about this stuff?

Anyway, I just did the whole process on my 1999 Camaro, 3.8, - 162,000 miles. (!)

Yesterday - full tank of premium, one can Seafoam. Added proper amount to crankcase (worthy to note for the V6 guys that the L36 holds 4.5 qt of oil for your Seafoam ratio calculation, not 5.5 like the Ls1), and did the booster line/deep creep intake cleanup just now.

Unfortunately, the only negative was when I dumped the final slug of it into the funnel to the booster line, it stalled, alright...but not before backfiring and blowing Seafoam all over me. I guess me AND my Camaro got Seafoamed. Word of advice, keep your face clear of the funnel, as Seafoam tastes like sh*t.

Then, started it up 15 minutes later - took a few cranks. Holy flucking schnitt, what a mushroom cloud. That sucker smoked so heavily I couldn't see the garage anymore, then after letting it smoke for a while, took it out to romp on it - 6 miles later (after fogging a county road with some wide open pulls) it is clear as a bell.

AND, now my idle lumpiness is gone, hesitation when punching it to WOT is gone, wow. This is amazing. Big improvement.

I am now a lifetime Seafoam zealot, and will reccommend it to everyone I know.

Jeff
