Thumbs up

6 months & 10k miles later I decided to Seafoam the Z again. Among other things (full fluid/filter change) I only used it up top and Deep Creep in the intake. One half hour later it put out a nice bit of smoke at WOT and only once. Compared to the first smoke show this was nothing. Looks like it does help to keep things clean. I put a can in the tank every so often and especially now that I changed the fuel filter.
Good stuff.
I never did say this but thanks for the killer write-up!

My local Autozone and Kragen do not have the Deep Clean SeeFoam. Is there anything else you recomment using instead of it?

I am going to do this tomorrow. Do I simply remove my intake tube when doing the throttle body cleaning part and spray the throttle body and into the intake manifold? What about the hoses leading away from the throttle body do I leave them attached or detached when spraying?

Thanks

JB

Remove the vacuum hose from the Brake booster for the initial Seafoam suckup as it is much easier than the manifold side. As to the TB just leave all your hoses in place and spray, you should be fine. Make sure to open up the butterfly on the TB and spray real good inside the manifold as well just make sure to keep your hand on that spay straw as it can pop off and fly to the back of your intake manifold (Don't ask how I know!!!). Good luck.

I just got done seafoaming through the brake booster, it actually didn't smoke much for a 158k car. Anyways, I had a question. You say the rpms will be higher with the brake booster hose undone, but mine were actually lower. To the point where it would die with out giving it some gas. Any idea why that is?

Any intake or carb cleaner will work just fine.

Anyone done this on a 3800 V6? How do you get to the throttle body? The MAF screen is in the way, and removing the throttle body from the intake just would make wonderful mess leaking the coolant out everywhere, plus then finding a new throttle body gasket is loads of fun.

Detaching the brake booster hose creates a massive vacuum leak. On many newer vehicles the PCM sees the RPM's drop, so it bumps up the idle to prevent the car from stalling out. On your OBDI car, the computer isn't as sophisticated, so it doesn't do anything. The vacuum leak you are creating merely floods the engine with excess air, creating a lean mixture and causing the car to run rough, idle low, and stall.

Thanks man! I was a little worried when I did it, since it did the exact opposite of what the guide said.

Anyone seen the instructional video?

Also IMO you should put the seafom in through the PCV port on the intake since LS1's are known to suck oil through there. Anyone thats had their intake off can see that the oil and build up starts at the PCV port and works it's way back.

I assume the same steps would be taken for a V6 f-body, right? Only difference should be the amount that is poured directly into the oil?
