Default When is a 3in true dual needed over a 2.5in?

I have a 2.5 in true dual setup on my car. Its a 00 z28 with LT, intake, H/c (torquer v2). Do you think i'll need 3in true duals? Or should 2.5 inch be enough? Its going through a x pipe to some magnaflow bullets, and then they dump right after that.

we will only answer this if you provide a sound clip!

my guess would be you might gain a SMALL amount if you are <500rwhp.

so basically...no you don't need 3"

i ran my cammed engine with LTs, 3" xpipe and no mufflers, dumped.

while it sounded good idling, and mean driving....it got old.

i actually enjoyed the car MORE once i put mufflers on it, i wasn't affraid to actually drive it.

limping around a 1200rpm to avoid cops was crappy.

The general consensus is 2.5" duals start becoming a restriction once you crest ~500fwhp.

This is what I was always told too. I went w/ 3" so I'd have room to grow later on. Sounds great too!

Thanks for the heads up guys, didn't know the links died. They should work now! I'll be sure to upload some new vids when I finish the new motor/exhaust.

I don't think I would attach a number to the 2.5" vs 3.0" arguement. Just look at the 1-3/4 vs 1-7/8 header arguement that lingered around for so long. Truth is, you will gain a little more on a cam'd app. with the 1-7/8 headers. I had a stock internal '02 A4 Z28 a few years back and it loved the 3.0" true duals. IMO, once you have exited the header, you want something with as little restriction as possible that promotes good flow.

Well I should be making about 430hp with my setup. I guess if i went with 3 inch I would see a small gain, but its alright. Car sounds nice, not extremely loud or lopey. Sounds much better than the Y pipe I had on it.
