Default Ram Air Kits, which one(chris1313,ftra,etc)?

I currently don't have a ram air kit on my 99 camaro ss, I've been searching and not finding what im looking for. Mainly all I'm looking for is there any back to back comparisons saying one is better then the other? Mainly all it seems like is peoples theories(ie plastic vs metal, which one has better air flow, etc). I guess at this point im leaning towards the Chris1313, FTRA, or maybe the ssra. What ram air kit do you have and why did you buy it?

I have the Chris1313 on my bolt on Z28 M6. It's a decent kit, I didn't like that it came with no instructions and I had some problems with fitment. To this day it still doesn't fit that well. However, the main goal Chris1313 had in mind was getting the most "box" he could in the limited space these cars have infront of the radiator/condenser. In doing so, I think it overall makes the fit a bit cumbersome. I never got mine to sit right on the radiator support and the metal lip that is bolted to the stock air dam doesn't look so great IMO. Not trying to bash Chris1313, just giving my honest opinion, I did feel like I picked up some power on the highway especially when its cold. I'm actually thinking of switching to the SSRA some time soon.

I don't think you can go wrong with either the chris1313 or the ssra kit. Either will work well and are proven products.

sorry to hear about having some problems with fitment, shoot me a pm with an email and some pics we can get this straightened out...sounds like you have the ac version by your description...

I have instructions just pm me an email...not sure if you bent the rib forward on the underside of the upper radiator support that will give you a good more clearance...it is tight with the ac version though...

If anyone ever has any problems with any kit just shoot a pm I am here to help...

thanks

Chris

I picked up the A/C version of his kit, I played hell trying to get it to fit on my Lid swapped LT1 car but with his help and Larry @ Speed Inc I was able to get it in. Since this was my first RA kit I can't compare it to others but I thought it was put together well and the quality was good for the cost, I also liked that it flows with the deflector at the bottom of the car.

IIRC chrs1313 didn't offer the A/C version of his kit when i bought my SSRA a while back.

Yep, It shrinks down towards the top to clear everything but it fits in the same spot.

Honestly all three are going to give you similar gains. If you are willing to get rid of your AC then definitly go with the chris1313 non-AC version. I have the SSRA and I think it was one of the best bang for you buck mods. I picked up a legitimate 3 mph at the track. Just make sure you completly seal your air box.

FYI - For those who don't there is now a track version of the SSRA called the Mega Mouth for those who removed the AC. It ships with instructions and is a straight forward install. Otherwise the original SSRA works fine if you have the AC.

I have the non a/c CHRS1313 ram air and love it!!!! The car pulls a bit harder on the big end. Easy to install and fast shipping from Speed inc. I would buy a CHRS1313 again for my next ls1.
