Tranny coolers are universal. Your car is the same as mine anyway. Same setup. I have one FS if your interested.

Stacked plate coolers are better than finned tube type coolers.

How about i go with yank's cooler instead? I assume it works well since they are made by the same company and its only $60.00 for it. i think its the kit with a 30,000

I highly doubt that Yank makes that cooler themselves but it is the better stacked plate style so go for it.

I dont know if I want to put a stall on and risk tearing up my tranny. Would I have to put in a flexplate and would lower gears like 3.73's help? I would have to take off alot harder driving around town too...

As long as it goes in with a cooler it'll be fine. Don't know if it's been answered, but are you running stock motor mounts? If you are, I would not install a poly trans, heck, I probably would only put one in if I was running solid motor mounts.

Also, how far are you willing to go as your drag / street/strip setup?

it still has stock motor mounts. I would assume they are in good shape. The car belonged to a GM tech. But you know what they say, a mechanics car always has problems. Or something like that. But yes, we are putting a polyurethane tranny mount on it. Will that help? and will the stacked cooler (30,000 i think) that yank sells on their site be good enough?

You seem to be asking question about things that have already been covered in this thread.

NO, do not install a poly transmission mount with stock motor mounts.

YES, the Yank cooler will do fine for you.
===============================================
You’re really only scratching the surface to make your car “fast”. Getting a stall converter will help and as stated here a few times by a few guys, it won’t “tear up” your transmission so long as you have a proper cooler.

As you start to add power, you’ll need to start considering other things. The stock suspension and torque arm will only work for you up to a point. Are you aware that the 10 bolt 7.5 inch rear WILL break in due time?

Adding a torque converter, lid and exhaust will help but not as much as you think.

Listen to, pay attention to and trust those here who've done every possible trick to these cars. They know what works and what doesn't.

Have you determined your gears yet?

When you make the move to a stall converter, it should go without saying that as you're obviously going to race this car, your transmission needs to be in good condition, How many miles on it? Has it been beaten on? Over heated? Burned fluid?

That is the only down side to a used car in my opinion. You don't know the exact history. We bought it from my dad's friend who sells him cars from iowa. It belonged to a GM tech but the car has 107,000 miles on it. The tranny shop told us to go ahead and get a poly tranny mount. they didn't say anything about motor mounts. So im assuming with all of this info a stall will tear up my already worn transmission even with a good cooler? The car shifts perfectly with no lag at all though.

I would say 12-7 or 12.8 with a tune.

Are you talking about with a stall or with what the car has?

Stock engine mounts allow the engine to move around-more so when the car has a lot of miles as yours does.

As the engine moves around, so does the transmission, especially at WOT at the track. A poly transmission mount is almost a solid mount. As the engine tries to move around, the transmission will resist the movement. Don't forget the torque arm is carried by the transmission tail housing.

Doing so you risk breaking the transmission tail housing.

ok so I have to get new motor mounts if I want to get a new poly tranny mount? and if I did that then I would be good to roll with the stall then.

Getting a stall converter has nothing to do with engine and transmission mounts.

If you intend on getting poly engine mounts, then yes, get a poly transmission mount.

If you get new stock style rubber motor mounts, you'll need to stay with a stock style rubber transmission mount.
