In my quest to find the best catback I stumbled upon this thread which really peaked my interest.

Being that I didn't have a gmmg catback and was stuck with the flowmaster catback that came with my car I decided that their must be an affordable catback that would flow good and sound great with minimal drone and rasp. Now I know most would say, "go duals or go home" , but I decided to take a different route. I took it upon myself to work up my own custom catback.
Here is what I came up with.

I traded my old y-pipe for the 'over the axle' slp loudmouth piece, bought a medium powerstick 3" in\out chambered muffler and two 12" resonators 2.5" in\out from classicchambered.com. I had it welded up at my local muffler shop for a fair price, and I was able to utilized the factory hangers. The result is a awesome, 'throaty' sounding exhaust with almost no drone or rasp at 1800-2200 rpms.
The mufflers and labor cost me right around $300 so its roughly the same cost as the tsp rumbler catback, but my setup uses stainless steel tubing and doesn't sound obnoxious. Please give me your feedback.

Man this is the exact set-up I just bought, except mine will be true duals. I talked to Eric at Classic Chambered and told him this was what I thinking and got his opinion, down to the resonators before tips. Can't wait to hear sound clip. I am shop hunting as we speak for an install.

Awesome!! I would love to hear an exhaust sound clip.
Are you going over the axle or under?

After I put on long tubes and an ORY I had tons of rasp from my Flowmaster cat back. I put in the Powerstick and rasp was gone. Still didn't like the look of the flowmaster tips, so I cut them off and put on 3" turndowns. Actually quieted down the exhaust a bit and no more ugly tips either.

That is so true about the powerstick removing the rasp. Did you add the powerstick and leave the flowmaster muffler?

I was in the same boat as you. I want the slp powerflo but was concerned about drone and rasp. I am glad I did this custom setup. It saved me money in the long run and I think it sounds a lot better. I'm working on getting some more videos uploaded. Hopefully I can get that done today or tomorrow. Stay tuned.
