I went ahead and bit the bullet last night on the Speed Engineering 1-7/8” headers and the over the axle true duals. They’ll be replacing a set of OBX 1-3/4” headers, ORY, and SLP Loudmouth. Looking forward to getting rid of that rasp!

Got a set of spintechs welded to my SE dumped duals. It sounds way better than those bullets. Here is a short idle video of it now. Couldn't rev it too high because my elderly neighbor was watching. Drone is at around 1700 RPMs 40ish MPH and cruising 45 and 70MPH it is nice and quiet. Much better tone than before. Id wager this is the best sounding LS1 I have heard in person.

Perhaps the best sounding on a true dual application, but you may want to give a listen to post #29 in the link below before reaching into your wallet:

Not knocking SE at all, bc im the idiot thats trying to make it work. but i can say that SE Over the axle Duals, MWC Chassis mount TQ arm, and a car on coil overs are NOT a good mix.

The best sounding dumps I’ve heard were the phab 3” dumps. The SE is raspier but I also like it coming out the back better

That sounds amazing. It would never work on a lowered car though.

Probably not. If you were lowered what I would do is I'd build a custom 3" y with good merge into a 4" pipe over the axle into your muffler of choice with dual 3" tailpipes.

Lt1's sound so much better then ls1's if you ask me. I loved a few exhausts on my 2 lt1 cars and hate my ls1 car. Just sounds like junk mixed with crap. All ls1's seem to do is drone or rasp, or be too quiet lol.

Id bet you could make it work, the dumped duals for sure, but unless you can cut and weld id take it to an exhaust shop.

For people facing the rasp/drone problem, how does just a standard magnaflow cat back do?

Magnaflow cat back sounds like a stock mufflered exhaust compared to these things....Ive had both.

A magnaflow catback with 1 chambered magnaflow and 2 magnaflow bullets is still 67 db and that is with a cat in the I pipe. These cars with a cam are loud as hell and nobody on the streets wants any part of it. Everyone is always talking about dual over a Y pipe because of Y pipe restrictions but what does a Y pipe merge restriction matter when you have low profile cutouts before the merge?

Boooooring. But in all seriousness. On a daily maybe you have a point but for me I didn't want electric cutouts for another thing to possibly fail. No potential failure involved with dual tubes and I'm not getting on the ground to remove manual cutouts.

And the y pipe I had prior to the dual were 3 inch tubing but had to step down to 2 3/4 pipe on the SLP catback. I could never get a good deal with any clamp used. Leaked at that point continuously.

Boring is not having the ability to change the sound of the exhaust. I live an hour from the guy's shop so if the cutouts fail it's easy for me to replace. There's nothing like pressing a button and making your car wake the dead as those cutouts open, causing Harley owners to wonder wtf just happened. Then you pull in your garage with them closed without pissing off your neighbors. The issue I see with only true dual is that they are loud as hell unless you quiet them down but then you just defeated the purpose of true dual. Those cutouts are the solution.

To each their own. It's not my DD so the duals make it exactly what I want. I don't want it to ever sound quiet and reserved. I guess my neighbors are just cooler than yours.

I wouldn't know how cool my neighbors are... I never pulled in with open cutouts to find out. Might just have to do it and see.
