Default Breather Filter for lid

I know I'm gonna need this for my 2001 WS6. But MTI sells them for $19. I'm sure I've seen them for cheaper other places. Can't I just pick up this piece at a local autoparts store?

You should be able to get one at any place that sells K&N filters. I can't remember the part number off hand but maybe someone else can post that.......

Go to advance and then find all the breather filters. Then look for a purolator breather filter box that's about 3"x3"x3". I dont remember the exact part number, I threw the box away. The filter was only $2.50, pick up a couple if you want some replacements. The factory plastic tube clamp works perfect to attach it because it's the same size as the nozzle on the side of air silencers. I then zip tied it to a brace on the radiator. See pics.

Do need to buy one of these when you buy a air box for a 98 Z28

No I'm pretty sure only '01 and '02 cars will need this.

Actually, it's the '00-'02 cars that need the filter. '98/'99 do not need the breather.......

Do you "really" need to run that breather?

That's a good question. I've never really paid attention to what sort of air filtration system the AIR pump uses on the '98-'99 cars (if any). Should the case actually be that the older models have no sort of filtration at all, then I really can't see why the '00 and up would need it either. Having said that, I did still use one on my '00 car, well.....just because.

I wasnt positive. I know now though.

Also, I would imagine that some form of filtration would be used for the 98-99 cars. It would make sense, but I do not know for sure.

Maybe I should get off my lazy @$$ and check my '98's setup out.....nah, too cold in my garage. Maybe in the spring.
