How to get exhaust pipes apart after clamping
I've got my loudmouth off of the car. But, the U clamps have crimped the pipes such that I can't get them a part. They turn but they won't come loose. How can I get them a part?

For mine i sprayed WD40 in there while i wiggled it left and right and pulling out. Eventually was able to yank it out.

You could slit the outer pipe lengthwise
(Dremel, etc.) from the end up to the far
edge of the "dimple". Then use a come-along
or other lengthwise pull. Watch that cable,
when it comes apart it may come apart fast.
Maybe rope up the two pieces beforehand, just
to keep everything limited. A little bit of
WD-40 or penetrating oil down the seam might
not hurt either.
The slit shouldn't make too much of a leak.
You can use a band clamp (or a couple of less-
aggressive U clamps) next time, the slit can
compress easier than an unslitted pipe.

ktm520 has got the right idea. around my area we call it the "red wrench". if you have enough room, heat the pipe up and use a ball-pean metalworking hammer and hit the inside of the pipe while it's red hot(be sure to wear safety glasses)so you can expand the pipe to the desired diameter. it takes a bit of patience with this method, but keep persisting.

I couldn't separate mine using a small propane "torch" - just couldn't get enough heat out of it. Oxy/Acetalyne would get much hotter but I had no access to one.I eventually took my dremel and made some slits and used a LOT of WD40.

WD-40 with a small block of oak & a mallet. place the wood against the lip of the exhaust the goes over the other part & hit it with the mallet. it may not seem to work at 1st but i can get most mine off within 5 min.make sure u keep lubing it with the WD-40

I always use SS band clamps, makes separation a cinch <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_tounge.gif" /> Never rusts and can polish em if wanted LOL

Re: How to get exhaust pipes apart after clamping
Here's an old trick that works without slitting;
Using two hammers or a hammer and a dolly, hit the pipe where the clamp was with one while holding the other against the pipe on the opposite side. Work your way all around the pipe. After you have gone all the way around once or twice the crease caused by the clamp will be reduced enough for the pipes to come apart,
